Why red mutagens are so rare?
As the title says. In my full playtrough l've managed to gather enough red mutagens for ONE greater red mutagen and ONE "normal" red mutagen.

unless its been patched (I've not played for a while) I got all my red mutagens by going to white orchard and killing the cows, then meditate, kill cows, until the chort just repeatedly spawns....He has a high chance to drop reds, but will also drop greens and blues... (He will be about lvl 27 on playthrough one)

If you go to the expansion area, you will get dozens of red mutagens.

I just hit Skellige and I already have enough for three greater reds. Guess you're not killing enough monsters.

i had the same problem on my 2nd playthrough ( current one) but then i went to skillega and started killing these insetcs around "Abondoned sawmill" and "Gedyneith" these instects are high lvl and hit hard but reds drop quite freaquent , 3-4 monsters killing and meditatiting and killing again :D tho u need poison resistance potion or ur a dead meat, one tip for u :) Good luck :) currently i have 6 maxed out reds :)

Red are supposed to be rare since they increase your attack damage. I should have noted that I didn't reach Skellige until level 23 and most of my red mutagens were found while wandering around Skellige. I'm not sure if it's area-specific, but on my way to find the Blacksmith's tools, I found plenty of the red mutagens from the Sirens, Harpys, and Trolls.

Hunt Alghouls, these seem to have a pretty good chance to drop reds.

Mhm, we'll see if l can find them somewhere, as lm not in a hurry. l have two attack based skill branches activated with one greater and one normal red mutagen. Just wondering why they are so damn rare and hard to find.

The higher the level the monster you kill, the more likely they are to drop red mutagens. They are rare because they are so powerful.

Farmed 10 lessers in 45. Ran to succubus side of the mountain SE of the sawmill cleared them out, mediated 24hrs then ran back to the saw mill. Rine and repeat.

IIRC, reddish colored drowners also seem to drop red mutagens. But it´s true that those are easily the most rare type, which means that you have to use +5% mutagen for a good while (werewolf, etc). I`m actually thinking that mutagen system could be made bit more interesting by having more different types of bonuses and not just +attack/sign/health...
