Crash at the Isle of mists save prompt
Im running an unmodded, up to date version of the game on a really good pc, so I'm pretty sure none of those are the problem.

When I sail to the Isle of mists the save prompt pops up. whether I press yes or no, the game immediately crashes to desktop.

Googling shows that a few people have had this problem, but nobody seems to have a solution. Has anyone suffered this and solved it?

same goes for me. unmodding / reinstallation doesn't fix it

Of course :( You can't avoid that pop up though. I was able to swim to where the questmarker would be and cheatet a boat under me. Instantly Pop up

SOLVED

After trying everything under the sun, I decided to throw a hail mary. I backed up my save files, uninstalled Steam (which deleted all of my games), rebooted and used CCleaner to delete temp files and registry settings. I then reinstalled Steam and let the game reinstall over night. This morning, I set sail for the Isle Of Mists and it finally worked!

I know it's not the best fix but it will work.

it crashes also because of the ng+ pop up. I installed TW3 on my Laptop and played 10 secs till the pop up came, saved and copied the savegames back.

In the end I did the DLC stuff, then came back to this place.
It crashed, as usual, but when it did it made a viable save file I could load from and head on to the isle.
I have no idea what changed, but I'd recommend doing the DLC either as a fix or a substitute because it's pretty great.
