Is there a guide for starting scavenger hunts?
I haven't found a single guide online that has the information I'm looking for.

I don't want a walkthrough for individual steps in the quests.

I just want to start them.

From what I can tell there are five quests associated with each school:

original, 1st upgrade, 2nd upgrade, 3rd upgrade, 4th upgrade.

And five schools: viper, griffin, cat, wolf, bear (aka ursine)

I could be wrong about much of this but the guides online are insufficient for this type of information.

For example, I've finished the "original" quest in the Viper chain. This is a level 6 quest in white orchard. I never found any followup to the 1st upgrade quest for Viper.

I've finished "original" and "upgrade 3" for cat but have no idea where to get the items to start "upgrade 2", "upgrade 1", or "upgrade 4"

A. No wolf set

B. It's easy to get the result if you know what to google for. I searched with a lot of strings and none had that as a result.

Found the wolf on another guide though, searching with the terms you must have used.

Thanks for the help

You could try on this website:
http://www.gosunoob.com/witcher-3/witcher-3-quests/
Try to filter according to Region and Quest Type to narrow down relevant searches. Blank search works, so you needn't enter any text in the search field, just hit the button after setting the filters.

As an example found one for Viper School Gear: http://www.gosunoob.com/witcher-3/scavenger-hunt-viper-school-gear/

Alternately you can look for the section Armor Sets/Best Armor Sets and check the individual armor set pages if you can find any additional info.

Edit:
Scratch that ^

Scroll down a bit and you can find guides for I think all the Schools. :GDNormal:

Yep. I'm just busting out the first Bear quest right now to confirm that the Blacksmith at the Kaer bridge will sell me more maps afterwards.

sharpnova, there is a bug/glitch in one of the bear diagrams...can't exactly say which one but one in skellige that "imprision" yoursel...but perharps any of us has the solution for it but atm the only way around I know is to get a fast travel mod or a console command for travel out of the "prison"... happened to me too so I had to go to nexus and get a fast travelling mod just to get out there

The mod Black Jack is referring to is -- Fast Travel From Anywhere, link: http://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/324/

Quite frankly one of the must have mods. Allows you to FTFA to a FT Sign Post.

yep im using that mod, very usefull indeed. will try other mods as soon as I finish my first playthrough (main story at lvl 38 atm) since too many mods may cause harm to the game core and ruin my playtrough...so using the minimum number of mods and then check them out...looking out for "School of the Roach" and other mods...it's a shame TW3 doesn't have a good modding capability...like the TES games and FO universe

I just have console enabled.

I know most of the commands, AllowFT(true) included. Which help me deal with the occasional bug

Only mods I use are autoloot

And technically two other mods but I wrote them myself. One that lets me zoom map out as far as I want and sets the default further out. And another that shows all quest objectives for ALL my quests on the map.

Something Projekt should have had as default from the start imo

next playthrough I'm gonna use that markers mod, which allow multiple markers with colors on the map...maybe the auto-loot and location ? mod. the only reason I'm not trying a lot of mods is due to not compromise the game core so I can at least finish the game once without much use of mods

A noble goal but I can say that the "showing all quest objectives on map at once" modification has been the biggest quality of life improvement in any game I've ever played.

You might want to do that one on your first playthrough (if you plan on doing all side content)

I'm level 39 and clocked over 150 hours and still missing 1/3 of the game...currently in a lvl 29 main quest and I think it ends at around lvl 35 so...still lot of time to be played, and also purchased HoS today so I can play it imediatily after main quest...I tried to investigate all buildings and sites I could view from the main map so it's natural I've spent tons of time just exploring the unknown...gonna use the ? map location mod as soon as I finish my first playthrough

also looking forward for the "School of the Roach" or other overhaul mods
