if you are struggling with the toad prince, then i pity your fight against the mage.
the hardest boss was the care taker for me. He drained so much of my health during the fight, even with cursed oil the fight lasted longer than any other.
For anyone who is not cheating using a sign build, using Archgriffin decoction makes you able to deal somewhat damage on him. And before you whine at me for calling sign builders cheaters, you cannot deny the fact that a sign build destroys any difficulty in the game. First off you are invincible with Quen spamming and stamina being back up in 2seconds, then also stunlocking any human with igni cuz they just scream in pain and die. Do i need to say more?
I have yet to figure out a fighting pattern on him, because he does everything at random, i've tried different positioning but no position actives a specific attack. You can stand anywhere and he will use any attack, the only one he does not use is the swing with his tongue if u are far away, otherweise he can use the front lash if u are close or far away, shoot you at any range or position with venom and his aoe venom is also used at random.
so tldr: Use archgriffin decoction to deal damage and be lucky. Sign builders don't need a tactic, use ur spells - win.
Edit: So i finally beat him, after 20 tries and this is how i cheesed the ♥♥♥♥ out of this boss battle. I used Enhanced cursed oil for 25% damage, Archgriffing decoction for 5%hp per heavy hit and Yrd sign and Northrend wind bomb, do not use when he jumps otherwise he dodges it, the bomb gives u time for 2 heavy swings.. I dodged and occasionally rolled back and forth, when stamina full i used Yrd sign near him, run off to make him walk in to it, this will give you time to use 3 heavy swings, don't worry, he won't attack immediatly when it is off, he will instead jump away. So 3 heavy swings then roll. The hitbox and hitdetection is pretty F'd on this fight, i got hit tons of times when not being even remotely close to the straightforward tongue attack.
@ Frederick: r u saying your Geralt socalled witcher that never uses ANY signs?? Wonder what uncle Vesimir'd say :P ... I guess next step's no potions... then no oils... then no armor... and perhaps no weapon... and finally lvl 1 Geralt. Could be fun challenge for sure :)
I remember making this thread when I faced the frog prince. Golden oriole and northern wind. This fight is very unfair on people who chose a sword based build.
Just don't get greedy when attacking. 1 or 2 hits then back off. Northern wind will let you land a lot more blows. Get in close, throw bomb and combo attack that mofo. It was the hardest fight in the game for me.
EDIT: Yeah and don't listen to these people who said he was easy. Plebs be playing on easy or normal or probably played Dark souls.
If he's been on this boss for over a year, he may have other issues, and all tips in the world won't help him.
I just stayed close, maintained a tight cone without going behind him or getting licked to death. Seemed to keep his jumping to a minimum, and I suspect with some more practice I could probably keep him from jumping at all. Fight takes awhile so it's good to pause Netflix for it. ;)
Caretaker took me a couple of tries. I enjoyed that fight a lot.
Tried this and I ended up dying from the impact damage when ever you get hit by the poison bombs he throws before I realized what was damaging me. :D
