Hearts of Stone - Frog boss fight really stupidly difficult?
It took less tries for me to defeat Ornstein and Smough in dark souls on my first play through than it took to kill that stupid frog. It actually reminded me of a dark souls boss with its unending barrage of attacks and stomp if you got too close for more than a fraction of a second.

Was I just missing some key weakness? I wasn't even playing on the hardest difficulty. Killing that thing on death march would be a thing of nightmares.

Killed him on blood and bones difficulty, even then quite hard! I used troll decoction, quen and ice bomb to freeze him, swallow when my health was down badly. Dodging and trying to get his back. The stomp thing was the worst because the venom was easy to dodge. But I agree with you.

i just rolled around and used igni, the fight was long as hell, but i came out the winner

Yeah he is brutal on DM, took me a good 45min with countless deaths. Just keep Quen up at all times and strike him. He can be slowed down with Axii and Yrden, but you better be quick and hit him a couple times then get out of there because of that knockback stun is aids. I am actually glad it was tough, I was kind of annoyed at how easy Imlerith was, the fight before him on the ice was probably more difficult than him. But Toad Prince is a whole new beast!

EDIT: also on that note I am tempted to console in Imlerith and Toad Prince and let them fight for the lols

It was a tough one, and yeah it felt like a Dark Souls fight, you really had to master the fight in order to make it come out decently.

It was hell, but man, was that one sweet hell on DM. Took me about an hour to beat him (due to dying several times) and I already feel like I want to go at him again, wish we'd have an Arena DLC like we had back for TW2.

I think what made it so sweet is that even your perfectly crafted Witcher gear tends to be not so effective against it, you finally feel vulnerable and his tongue attacks could easily take up to half of your HP.

Yrden stuns him for about 5 seconds. Sign intensity probably plays a roll in it. But i found him laughably easy once i figured that out.

I couldn't get the hang of trapping him in Yrden, I mean it worked the first few tries but it seemed he kept jumping faster and faster as the fight went on.

i found the caretaker to be worse because he heals when he deals damage

The alternate form of yrden works really well if you cant get close to him. What i did was kept rolling towards him till i got to his side and then put down the yrden circle, then roll away for the stun to set in, then go to town on him.

Yrden, Northen Wind and Cursed Oil.. also use some golden ortile as well as that will allow you heal from the poison.

And if you think that was tough fight just wait til you get toward the end of the main quest and have deal with with the bosses then

I suck at Souls games and hate'em, but i am really good at Witcher games and love'em, also use Quen and Igni!

if you stop to think about it,it isnt that hard after you died few times that is:)
ive used quen+a potion that recharges your stamina faster to deploy the quen faster+golden oriole to recharge my health from his poison and also try to remember his paterns to hit him when he is not going to jump.
all of this in death march

my first fight with him was pretty fun, tried using every bombs and potions I can to beat him down. Accidentally shut down my com before saving and had to fight him again so I just spam igni & dancing star (the burning is imbal) and it ended real quick.

if you think toad prince is hard wait till the next next boss fight.

Died on it once. Still playing on death march save and I was lvl30 when I fought him. Not that hard once you get it down. Its one of the better bossfights in the game for sure. Its a piece of cake untill you get it down to the last third of its health when it seems to just take less damage from the usual stunts and you are probably low on bombs and such. Use Decoctions and keep moving, its a piece of cake once you learn to keep moving and not to get close untill you bait it jump atleast once and even then, hit him maybe once and back off.

It's an easy boss once you realise what he is.
Remember the conversation with Shani that he didn't react to the torch, and Geralt remarked that it doesn't fear Fire, so Igni or any fire based bombs are useless on the Boss.

Usually when an enemy is ok with Fire, it isnt ok with Cold or slowing spells. So use Northern Winds Bomb, and Yrden, its a piece of cake, just need the have your stamina regeneration potion, and you can spam quen just in case he lands a hit, roll to the boss, cast Yrden, he will do some animation to try to jump out of the trap, you can land 3 Strong hits while hes doing that.
Keep doing that, you can also use the Northen Wind freeze bomb, and you can whack him a bit before he swats you.
