AFAIK there is no major difference except for completing or failing the objective.

Seeing as Skelligans are about honor, gaining honor and maintaining honor, it would be low to let her win.

If you win, nobody will see her as failed, because they all admit that even they would never win from an witcher whom can run and climb faster because of the mutations.

Stay sober... (No I won't say why...).

I had him disappear as well. After meditating a few times with no luck, I went to his house and he was standing on top of his bed upstairs (around 6PM in game). He gave me the _"Why did you leave me hanging"_ or whatever line, and everything went fine from there. I kinda wish I had a save from just before that so I could see what happens if you run off and do another quest again.

He initially left as I was finishing up the Morgue quests. I ran into him around 12am and was back by 4:30AM. Would have been sooner but I fast traveled to Velen to sell armor, buy a few things and have my gear repaired (cheaper there than in Novigrad. A *LOT* cheaper). Anyway, that's my sob story. I'm glad they made it like this, but with all the bugs in games, I can only imagine how many people never finished the quest because they thought it was broken.
