why did roach turn black?

i want my regular horse back now he's all black with no hair just the tail wtf happened is it a bug? i think it was ever since i put the new horse saddle on him

How far into the story are you? You can get a black horse if you make certain decisions.

when u refused Emhyr's gold, he gave nilfgaardian horse (the black one).

i finished the story a long time ago i didnt go see emphyr my horse was always brown i just started playing again cus of the expansion n he was brown this happened like an hour ago

It happend to me too, when I launched the game after latest patch and with Hearts of Stone installed. Weird. It was not Emhyr's present, because I haven't spoken to him yet

Roach is a she :) I heard that many people think that her name is short from cockroach, but it's not a bug, it's a fish :)
I kinda like her look now, her neck is really graceful. But I wanted white horse anyway.

Ok, the coat color is definetly a bug. I went to White Orchard, and Roach turned brown! And her mane were intact as well. Then I returned to Velen, and guess what? Black coat and no mane again! Roach is some crazy color-changing teleporting demon-horse.

Having the same issue here. It didnt happen until the DLC was released today. Played last night running patch 1.10 and roach was not glitched

First: Roach is just the name Geralt uses for all of his horses.

Second: You can get a black (Nilfgaardian) horse depending on the choices you made with Ciri visiting the Emperor

Third: If you did not visit the Emperor yet, but bought the DLC and selected the option to use a "pre-made level 32" Geralt, Roach can turn black because maybe the "pre-made" Geralt is just a save CDPR put into the game that has the proper Ciri/Emperor choice embedded in it?

Fourth: If you do not have the DLC, did not visit the Emperor yet, and loaded into an old save after the newest patch to find a Black Roach, then this indeed may be a bug.

I am not doing a new game plus I am on my second playthrough without doing newgameplus. Im in skellege. I own all DLC and expansions. I think its a glitch because it randomly happened after hearts of stone update and the horse has no mane.

also i know that geralts calls all of his horses roach

Definitely a glitch. Just started a fresh new game from ground zero, and my Roach is black.

Geralt Appoints all horses Roach, no matter their sex, it says in the books
