Game Breaking Bug in 2024 is Lame

So, After killing Eredin, during the cutscene when Yen took Geralt, it went into a loading screen,

This end up loading into a death screen, which is black, and has the sound of Geralt is drowning, the only options are to Load a recent save, or Load any save or return to the main screen.

I tried to load into the save where they prepared for the attack at the dock, played again through the staged battle, fought Eredin again, and it went on to do the same!!

I suspect that, when killing the wild hunt mage, (the guy Ciri didint finish), Geralt was taken by that mage into deep water, and he had to swim to the surface, in my game, it cuts off by cutscene before Geralt surfaces from the water, so somehow he stayed there and got drowned?

It's really lame for a game to still have this kind of bug after soooooo many years?

Sounds like it might be a issue your side, rather then the games, I got a lotta hours and a lot of completions, and I've never seen the End game bug u reported, either in V1 or V4. O'm very active on the W3 community, and I dont remember this bug coming ip before, 4 years is a long time, so I could be mistaken..

Try veryfying ya files.

Just did verify my files, and load into the game, it is still the same. I searched thoroughly on google and reddit, I see a very few ppl had similar bug, and only one guy had exact the same bug, but at different point of the game, https://www.reddit.com/r/witcher/comments/5aqu7o/turn_and_face_the_strange_bug_instantly_drown/

the situation is when after a cutscene, a long loading screen will follow, then loaded into death, with drowning sound effects.

So far I have seen no solution. I can only try to load an even earlier save, and have my fingers crossed.

Thanks for the update, I thought it might be one of the ultra rare bugs, sorry I cant be more help, I have a suggestion, it worked for another game, that had a similar problem.

Thats the issue, similar but way different, any-way the "cure" was to run windowed for that particular section, then go back to full screen when your past it,

I doubt that solution would work here, worth a try though, u haven't got anything to lose, and potentially everything to gain.

I went tried what you said, and it was the same, then I loaded another save from a bit earlier, where Yen and Ciri went to the lab with Geralt, and I m just reporting back after defeating Eredin, I was again loaded into a black screen telling me I was dead and with drowning sound effects.

Guess I will never be able to finish none of the witcher games XD


I had a strange bug in Witcher 2 as well,
When I sided with the Scoiatael, I thought it is reaching the end, so I spent all my money to upgrade gears and stuff, then went on with the story.
I can't remember if I comitted crimes or not, but I end up at a town, where the guards will catch me and ask me for some bribes, and I had no money to pay them off, so, Geralt was getting shot by arrows and instant death.
Auto saves were all overwritten and the closest manual save I remember was like 2-3 hours away. I would call it was a bug this, but a dead end loop.

Now with Witcher 3, I am again facing a dead end i guess.
Well, maybe going to just leave the main quest, and go on with the DLCs, then come back and hopefully I can manage to get pass this point and continue the story maybe..

Sorry I cant help any further, I don't think it will be fixed though, if it hasent been allready. HHmmmm 1 last ditch idea, if ya running on DX12, try DX11 an vice versa...

Really all it means is, you wont be able to start a NG+ unless perhaps u get a end game save of some-one.

I was looking to finish the story and start a NG+, as I left the game unfinished from 2018 i think, that's where I picked it up again. Maybe my save is too old and W3 updated so much making it some strange bug. Idk, but I will try.

If I get a save game, will all the gears and stuff be lost and I will need to get on with what ever the other person's progress is ?

Age of save dosnt matter, I've successfully loaded V1 saves. If you get a save of some-one else, any stuff you had would be gone, and you'd have to restat Geralt, replace current armour and weapons with what you had etc.

U could get a save game from the very end, it just has to be a completed game, then u can use that to start a NG+

To be frank, the end bit is way of a let down, as endings go it was pretty mediocre, believe me u aint missing anything, might be better to enjoy the fact technically u have beaten the game,, Eriden's dead, no 1 else to fight.

Tried to go DX11, Didn't help.

But I read some posts and suggesting to use Geforce NOW to load the game, I just tried it, which helped to load into the game.

I guess its a loading issue with my PC wont be able to load into the cutscene for some reason. Im on a GTX1070, in theroy it should be able to handle the game.

But well. No idea. good its working now.
