Subtitles not showing/working

So, I had a break of less than a year from The Witcher 3. I remember that the last time I played, I was playing without subtitles. Now that I’ve come back to the game, I can’t figure out how to get the subtitles to work. I have them enabled, but they are not showing in-game. I tried verifying game files, disabling all the mods, checking config files, and so on. My only guess is that the latest update, which added REDkit, broke the game for me

Did you ever find an issue to this? Sorry for bumping an old issue, I've just come across this myself. Subs are showing during cut scenes but general gameplay subtitles are not there and it's really frustrating me!

I had a slightly different problem, but the issue might be the same. There are two settings files in the game's files for each DirectX version (actually in the Documents folder, but who cares). My problem was that when I changed the game settings while using DX12, the DX11 settings file was changing for some reason. I had to manually enable subtitles in the DX12 settings file.

I also know there’s an option in the game to change the size of the subtitles that appear above NPCs. Before messing with the game files, check if the scaling is set to one. If not, try adjusting it in the game settings first. If that doesn’t work, you can look for the scaling option in the game settings files and change it manually to see if it helps
