DX11 or DX12 if I don't plan on using DLSS,FSR,Ray tracing? (R5 5600x, GTX 1080 ti, 32GB)
This will be my first ever play through and I decided to give it a try cause of the next gen update. I heard that DX12 crashes a lot back when it first launched. Is it still like that now? Which one should I use if I don't care about RT, DLSS and FSR?

I don't have any crashes on DirectX 12. Had a few freezes that required me to end the process manually, but I feel like those are unconnected.

playing w3 in dx11 will not be like w3 prior to the dx12 update. that means, rasterized shadows will mostly be broken. I have no information, that this has been fixed, so Id use dx12 with frame generation when possible. your graphics card doesnt provide FG, so take a look at the 'lossless scaling' tool, here on steam. happy gaming.

If you don't plan on using DLSS, FSR and RT, then use DX11. On DX12 without using DLSS or FSR your performance would be pretty disappointing, so stick to DX11.

Is there a difference in terms of quality? Will using DX11 remove any next gen features other than dlss, etc?

no its same version same game.

dx 12 difference is that it might work better or worse on specific pc

and the dx 12 only has RT DLSS etc.

with your pc its better to go dx 11 and enjoy more stable fps.

also dont use any frame gen tools those are all bad, majority of the time it just makes game more lagging and worse graphics just for some visual number increase that does not help game enjoyment. (you can try it if you want though)

currently remember to disable hair works due to a update glitch that was few days ago. (or else dx11 wont work)

also go ultra+ all and see how fps stays.

you might also consider going for mods if you like them, I would recommend them for 1 play through or 2.

(there are quite good mods to make game more enjoyable)
(all mods are easy to install on nexus.)

remember to use good cooling (if you use air make sure you not using low speed on fans)

since its your first play through , dont forget to use audio headphones etc or else you will miss good music and audio etc :D

make sure you enable all dlc and alternative outfits in game options (except one outfit maybe that is quite bad)

if you get bad fps try ultra graphics on some and leave ultra+ rest.

DX12 performance seems to have improved greatly since last year. I'd suggest giving it a try.
