Steam Overlay doesn't work if you have mods?

I'm using the STLM 2.1 mod and the Steam Overlay doesn't work or take screenshots.. why is that?

Nope nothing. I remember also that I played this with Reshades and all and everything was fine but now, well poop.

Steam was forced to change the way the Steam Overlay/Big Picture works a while back to fix problems with the Steam Controller, and with that change, it became a full-fledged injection wrapper that conflicts with other ones itself. Since that update, it can't be used in conjuction with any other wrappers.

Games can only usually be "wrapped" by one injection wrapper, be it Steam Overlay, Origin Overlay, ReShade/SweetFX, ENBSeries or any other OSD like MSI Afterburner. If and when you get two working together, it can be buggy, because they are often hooking into the same parts of a .dll and can override one another.

A common solution to "ReShade not working" is now to disable Steam Overlay or any other wrappers like Razer Cortex's FPS counter or MSI Afterburner's OSD (in case one of them is superceding RS as the active injection wrapper). You can't have more than one working at the same time. ReShade's authors addressed this by making ReShade attempt to take priority, so it is more likely to have the last word and be the injector used, but that change totally disables other overlays or injectors, rather than allowing them to attempt to hook the .dll at the same time.

If you absolutely need the Steam Overlay, the only workaround I know of is to disable any other injectors/wrappers.

well.. we are doomed.. without the overlay, I don't feel like I'm playing witcher 3 on steam. Now I need to use 3rd party softwares just to take screenshots :(

Found a fix, quite a simple one really, delete your reshader.

For now there simply is no other fix, normal mods work completely fine, it is only the reshaders that breaks the steam overlay.

Reshader? The only mod i'm using is buttons for DS4 controller.. And my steam overlay doesn't work.

If you uninstall the mod, does the overlay work again?

Its the only mod i have ever used. I don't know what sweetfx is.
I haven't tried uninstalling the mod yet.

according to CDProjekt, the mods would actually cause an issue within the game regardless of what mod you use. SweetFX, Reshader are both mods that i used and can restore the Overlay if you delete the files along with it.

I found a solution to fix it, rename d3d11.dll to dxgi.dll and you can use reshade with steam overlay :)
