What is the best time to go to Skellige?
(some spoilers ahead)
Guys, please share your opinion and experience: when do you think it's the best time to go to Skellige and why?

In one playthrough I tried to go there as soon as feasible (and it was not the best time).

In another I tried to finish all quests in Novigrad first, and this resulted in me going to Skellige too late, when I already was tied with Triss.

Would you go before or after saving Dandelion?

The game suggests Level 16, but it's not a rule, just an indication...

So, what do you think about it?

...?

If you don't want to tie yourself with Triss, then don't. It is perfectly possibile to do Skellige after Novigrad, as both Yen and the quest levels indicate that you should, without ending up with Merigold.

I might be mistaken but I think it goes like this: you can sleep once with Triss and Yen and then choose one of them for good. However, if during Now or never quest you told Triss you love her I think this locks you out of choosing Yen. So it is possible you stuck with Triss if you're a completionist at Novigrad.

I basically clear Velen, Novigrad and Oxenfurt and do "almost" everything there is to do in those areas including saving Dandelion and even the Hearts of Stone DLC (which I feel fits best shortly after saving Dandelion). I save the "A Matter of Life and Death" quest with Triss (the masquerade ball quest) as my last quest before I go to Skellige (I do not do "Now or Never" until returning from Skellige). I feel that creates the proper "dramatic tension" between Geralt & Triss before Geralt goes to Skellige as I feel in that situation Geralt needs to give Yennefer some attention before making a choice between her and Triss.

Hope this helps.

I helped Zoltan, Dandelion and Triss before moving on to Skellige. I didn't do everything in Novigrad though.

As long as you don't say "i love you" during the quest "Now or never "to Triss you can romance Yenn, as order of quest, i do Velem to level up a little, roam around the world to gather materials and junk to sell, then, all the quest to save Dandelion and random side quests that pop up and gwent quests, by then you can do Oxenford, and even quest from Novigrad like "Of swords and dumplings" then you can go to Skellige without problem.
