Duny is Emhyr, Emhyr is Duny

In the Last Wish, Geralt helps remove a curse on Duny, the man who impregnates Pavetta, who is Ciri's mother. He claims Law of Surprise, to obtain Ciri as payment of sorts.

Later, Duny and Pavetta are reported to have died in a shipwreck. How is it that the Emhyr is alive and well as ruler of Nilfgaard. I would assume that 'Duny', one of the Emhyr's aliases, was not on that ship.

There is probably another short story that explains this but I can't wait. Anybody know why Duny is reported to have died in that accident?

No, only Pavetta died on that ship and that was because she fell overboard.

It is explained in one of the later books how he managed to do that. Basically he had help from a powerful mage. :)
