Game fails to launch

It used to work without a hitch before the 4.04 update. So far I've tried updating the vcredist files, updating the gpu drivers and skipping the launcher. Both dx11 and 12 will cause the .exe to appear in the taskbar but other than that, there's no visual hint whatsoever.
I'm pretty stumped, what else could I try?

check windows event viewer and also windows reliability history. might be a game crash event or system related errors.

check your antivirus. perhaps a new definition file downloaded and is blocking the game

is the game creating .settings files in folder

Launch New game, crash to desktop

I completed this game once with no time left for the DLC's i bought at the time. I want to play this game again. Now many years later after a Netflix ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, with new updated graphics, And a new PC (RTX4090) i finally have the ability to run RT i am hyped to play this again. I put the settings on RT Ultra 1440p click on new game. But the game closes to desktop everytime.

thx i will try had CPU spikes up to 93 degrees.

(1) You had old version game , and then updated or

(2) just downloaded as new gen?

If the 1 then I recommend deleting everything clean and trying 2 to avoid some glitched crashes.
(If you ever had old mods before , I really recommend doing so.)


As for crashes as long as rt is on or dlls 3 or dx 12 then you don't need to be surprised about crashes in this game.

You can start new game dlc skipping main story if you want to go straight dlc experience or just play new game again from beginning.

(I would recommend deleting old 1.32 saves )

I do recommend taking pictures if you replaying as some locations just look good ;]

@Xamurai that was exactly my problem. With the fixes right now it's been running, even in the background, for more than 2 hours, with Alt+Tab etc which was not possible before.

How do you know its new gen? I just did go to library and downloaded the game fresh like always. i asume its with the upgrade.

if it says 4.04 in the game's main menu (upper left I think), it is the latest update.

I put that nvidea setting on 3 now.
Every graphic setting at full banana's, on 1440p, 90fps max
my PC's silent fan settings. without overclock settings
my CPU runs avg 77 degrees
my GPU runs avg 68 degrees

on 2 frames:
my CPU runs avg 83 degrees
my GPU runs avg 65 degrees

off:
my CPU runs avg 90 degrees
my GPU runs avg 60 degrees


Ofcourse it has to be seen after i leave Kear Morhen. And go to more intensive places. Like cities. Also alot less graphical bugs.

Yes 4.04, i deleted old saves just to be sure.

yes indeed, worst case scenario. I can turn on some more fan power, or a bit less frames later on.
