Crashes on 'Ugly Baby' Loading page- help pls!

I've tried to continue the main quest 'ugly baby' about 30 times now - but after the storyline where the Nilfgard soldiers stop Geralt from taking Uma the load page after they ride off crashes!

I've tried everything:
-played other contracts or sidequests and came back
-made sure i completed all the quests prior
-un/re install the game on steam
-dism and sfc scan
-verified intergrity of game files
-update windows and graphics drivers
-un/re install my graphics driver
-clean boot
-theres no overheating or overclocking
-tried with windows firewall/virus off and on
-i even played it on all low settings - no RT - borderless vs full screen
- tried directx11 vs directx12

but it still crashes when i try to get through that one load page.

my PC specs:
- AMD ryzen 5 5600x
- Nvidia Geforce RTX 3070
- 32 GB RAM
- windows 11
- only have the windows virus/firewall
- dxdiag comes back with no problems

If anyone knows how to get through this let me know!

Sorry, don't have a solution but was experiencing similar issue with my saves. What usually helped was loading older save. But happens from time to time over and over.

sounds weird , as said try a different save or delete user settings and .bak in documents and change settings in game again , maybe some value is broken in there.

i tried deleting all the .settings and .bak and that didn't work

weirdly in my saves folder i have a save from 7/7 at lvl 13 and then it jumps to my recent saves from 8/6-8/7 - does that mean i lost game saves? or that the 7/7 one was before it became corrupt?

if so is it possible to ask someone else for a game save closer to where i left off because i realllllyyy don't wanna start at lvl 13 again when im at lvl 27 now :/

I dont know , did you save one save many times or made separate saves each times ?

there is some one who said doing one save multiple times on one save causes big corruption that continues messing new saves and only older saves can then work.

for saves there are definitely some on nexus but most either seems at beginning or near very end

I got one save near end , it should still work 4.04 as long as mods used are 4.04 (or no mods but then it might cause some glitches.) (like you definitely need inventory mod or else you wont move with 4000 weight that I have.)


I finished the game on that save , of course it is not perfect due to minor glitches but nothing major.

I quick save with F5 before doing something that i thought i might die on, but never created separate manual saves.

the lvl 13 save from 7/7 is a manual save, so the only thing i can assume is it kept that old one and i've been playing on corrupt saves ever since?

i found someone on nexus with a lvl 54 save but I wanna do it myself so badly

so now i'm just debating in my head if i should start over at the lvl 13 save and just check my saves after every play or skip ahead with their save :/

ohhh wait - i now realize the reason it skips up is cause 'quick save' isn't the same as 'manual save'....
so basically i stopped manual saving on 7/7 and now my saves folder has that and then the most recent saves which are quick and auto saves.

i tried playing on the earliest save after the 7/7 (which is still on lvl 27) and it still crashed on Ugly Baby
also tried deleting the manual save from 7/7 and it crashes.

so now i really have no clue what that means...all my saves are corrupt?

Have you tried rolling back to an older driver? I'm running on 528.49 so far without incident, newer drivers gave me a bit of stutter. Nvidia seems to be dropping the ball with their drivers here lately. Either way I do hope you manage to figure it out, good luck.

I didn't try that - but either way I found someones save file for lvl 23 going into Ugly baby which worked, so I guess i'll have to be better about manual saves and checking my save files so they don't corrupt
I have to redo a bunch of sidequests and contracts cuz i'm OCD lol but I'd rather redo things then skip ahead

Glad you got it sorted out, and didn't have to uninstall and reinstall drivers again, still sucks you lost your own save file. Think I'll be a bit more picky about multiple saves as well from here on.
