Win 11, 64 gb ram,13900k/f ,4090 RTX, playing complete edition (GoG patch 4.02)
Playing now the last 3.5 hours @4k with everything on max,dx12,ray tracing, DLSS(quality), and frame generation on. Not a single crash. Fast travelled, completed many missions, ect. It’s still running as I type.
Ultimately,Enabling rebar via Nvidia profile inspector is what solved this for Me. Solid as a rock now.
I’ll note that throughout the week I also updated the dlss dll to the latest version, disabled Ansel via profile inspector as well in case this is a culmination of things that have fixed it.
I've had Resizable BAR enabled for ages, certainly doesn't change anything for me. I've also tried multiple DLSS versions to no avail - guess I can try 1.0.7.0 but I thought the latest patch was already using that.
*Noticed you're using the GoG version, not sure if that changes anything (probably not).
For sure results may vary. Have you turned off Ansel?
Im not solely putting this on enabling rebar as I think it’s the entire combination of things really. Went from crashing every 15 to 20 minutes to simply not crashing at all though so something worked.
I'll give it a try and report back -
Edit: Lasted about 30 minutes and got a crash. Tried again, got another crash within 15 minutes. Ansel disabled with 1.0.7.0 DLSS (also tried the regular 3.1.1 version in combination).
What Nvidia driver are you using?
Turning off frame gen fixed it and I was able to play stably for a few hours. Hopefully they fix - unbreak - their DLSS 3 implementation soon.
I tried to activate rebar in Nvidia profile inspector - and 1 hour 20 min no crash! Before that crash happened every 1-5 min. I'll keep testing that.
I did not even know that these stupid nvidia like added rebar, in the bios enabled, but I still have to go into the inspector and manually activate for each game ... How complicated everything is, like the year 2023, and the software has become even worse than before. And this is in the presence of powerful hardware, all the latest drivers and so on...
Do you have it enabled only in the bios or through the nvidia inspector too? Without activation for each game in the inspector - rebar doesn't work...
Enabled in BIOS, enabled in Nvidia Inspector, and always shows "Resizable BAR: Yes" when checking system information in the Nvidia control panel. I also just don't see how this would fix crashes, regardless.
Perhaps there are other factors at play here as well. In the evening I will check for crashes again.
### NVIDIA Profile Inspector ### The Witcher 3
[5 - Common]
Ansel - Enabled Off
rBAR - Feature Enabled
rBAR - Options 0x00000001 (Battlefield V, Returnal, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Metro: Exodus, Hitman 2, F1 2020 - DX12, Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition, Godfall, Watch Dogs: Legion, Borderlands 3, Control, Forza Horizon 4, Forza Horizon 5, Deathloop, Gears of War 5, Red Dead Redemption 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Death Stranding, The Riftbreaker, Halo Infinite, DiRT 5, Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition)
rBAR - Size Limit 0x0000000040000000
Mine didn't have those exact options - but I tried them and it made no difference unfortunately.
As I said before, many factors can vary, from hardware to drivers. My configuration is 3800x, x570 (last bios), windows 11 (last updates), 32gb memory, 4090, all drivers are the latest versions at the moment, including nvidia. DLLS 2 manually updated to NVIDIA DLSS DLL 3.1.1 Feb 12th, DLLS 3 manually updated to NVIDIA DLSS 3 Frame Generation DLL 1.0.7.0.
Dlls 2 is on, Frame is on, rt shadows off, all other - max. 4k.
The main factor here is the patch, as that is undoubtedly what is causing the crashing as there were no issues before it. Everything is updated on my end, I've tried multiple Nvidia drivers, every version of DLSS, overclocks on and off, etc. - nothing has helped in the slightest in my experience, though there is some randomness as to when the crashes occur.
