question about failing a quest.
I'm working on Blood and Wine and am at level 41. A few levels back I took on the quest Feet as Cold as Ice. It is 45 so I put it off till later. I don't remember how I found the quest. I just got a notice that I failed the first part "Help Francois defeat Grottore."
I thought you could put off quests until you felt ready for them. For me at least, taking a level 45 quest when I was probably 38 would not turn out well. How do I avoid this in the future since you don't know the level of a quest until you accept it? I never had this problem in Wild Hunt.

you'll never know quest level before you accept unless you're using guides. as soon as you accept it's in quest list and you can just reload earlier save if you find quest too high lvl.

You can usually leave them as long as you don't trigger something that causes the quest to fail. In the case of Feet Cold as Ice, once you meet and wake Francois he will run down to the cave and if you do not follow him quickly enough he will be killed and you will fail the quest. You can ride past him without waking him (I have done this for the same reason you left the quest for later) and not failed the quest, but once you trigger that waking sequence if you leave the quest you will fail it.

Make sure you save often without overwriting your saves, so if this happens you can go back to a save before the quest failed.

No way I can go back on this one. It was many game days and at least 2 other completed quests later that I got the massage that I failed that part of the quest. Live and learn.
