Game keeps crashing on new 7900XTX
Just curious if anyone has similar issues, i got a new 7900XTX yesterday and the witcher 3 seems like it crashes no matter what settings i choose. Im going to have to RMA it because its got the bad vapor chamber but in the mean time my temps are fine with my PC on its side (lol).

Any talk of a patch for this or is it possibly a driver issue? Have tried DX12 and 11 along with no RT. Thanks!

I have a 7900 XT and my game is randomly crashing. Sometimes i can play couple of hours without any problem, sometimes i have crashes every few minutes.

Today i played like one hour and i had at least 5 crashes ;-(

That is (sadly) what you get by buying in early on new AMD stuff.
Their drivers just love to be crappy for new GPUs. And sometimes they never get fixed or take years.

Actually the NR 1 reason I did not consider an AMD GPU in quite a while. Have been burned too many times by this and would much rather move to the other team and actually get to play my games and even enjoy new tech.

Are you able to roll back drivers with AMD?

Yooooo I think i got it working.
For starters I deleted all amd drivers and installed again, not sure if I got the same version or newer.

DX12 now works and hasn't crashed yet, I've tested around for about 1 hour.

Here are my findings lol (I only wrote down gpu/cpu% if it would change from the previous setting)

Hairworks turned off for all testing.
Upscaling 1080p -> 2k with fsr

Settings high
Forest 130++ gpu 80-99% cpu 45-75%
Novigrad 55-100 (average between 70-80)
gpu 45-75% cpu 40-60%

Settings ultra
No noticeable differences compared to high settings.
Except forest 100-140

Settings ultra plus
No noticeable differences compared to ultra settings.
Except forest 80-120
Except Novigrad 45-95 (average between 65-75)

Settings ultra plus full RT
This is where it fell apart lol
Forest 30-40 gpu 95-99% cpu 30-40%
Novigrad 25-45 (average +-33)
gpu 95-99%

Settings ultra plus only global RT
Slight difference from ultra plus full RT
Forest 40-50 cpu 35-50%
Novigrad 30-55 (average 40-45) gpu all over the place 70-99%

Afterwards I tested with no upscaling in standard native 2k I experienced about a 1-5 frame drop in Novigrad and a 10-20 frame drop in the forest.
Makes upscaling not worth it for me.

Final test on 4k TV. Limited by 10 meter hdmi cable that passes through up to 60fps.
Didn't bother to test gpu and cpu% anymore :)

Setting ultra plus 4k
Forest getting some dips all the way down to 40 fps but very short (like quick spikes) 55-60fps seems to be the norm.
Novigrad some slight dips towards 55fps but mostly 60fps

So these settings match pretty perfectly with what I can do with the tv and the cable I have right now.

For fun tried full RT
Forest 20-25 fps
Novigrad 25-30 fps

And finally RT global only
Forest 25- 35 fps
Novigrad 30-40 fps

Ray tracing doable but not worth the low fps to me.

All in all a successful day of testing and I can finally enjoy dx12 (no rt)
By the way for people that are stuck in dx11, I see no difference lol so don't sweat too much about it.

Fixed Issues
Intermittent driver timeout may occur when applying Auto Overclock performance tuning.
While playing Valheim™ an app crash or driver timeout may occur using Vulkan® API.
While playing The Witcher® 3: Wild Hunt, an intermittent app crash or driver timeout may occur when Ray Tracing settings are enabled.
Minor performance degradation may be observed after applying a factory reset of settings.

Was this resolved? I've got a Red Devil 7900xtx and The Witcher 3 in DX12 mode is unplayable. Especially in scenes with lots of fog or particle effects. Even with RT disabled, and all settings on low, the game crashes frequently.
I've tried re-installing with clean drivers, reinstalling the game - all the normal stuff. DX12 mode just doesnt work.
DX11 runs like a charm.
I am curious if there are any other 7900xtx owners out there with similar issues?
Thanks.

ever since the dlss hotfix, playing on DX12 for 7900xt and 7900xtx is toasted.

doesnt matter if you have rtx on and off, simply doesnt work.
