What difficulty level to choose?
Hello! I am planning to play Witcher 3 for the first time and I don't know what difficulty level to choose. I almost completely went through Dark Souls 2 and 3. There I go through all the locations alone without help, with the exception of bosses, I almost always go through bosses only in a team with NPCs or players. Because I'm not one of those who will try to go through the same thing dozens of times just for the sake of the challenge. But at the same time, I love everything except the bosses themselves, so I can hardly be called a casual player.
I watched a lot of witcher videos, but I still couldn’t decide which difficulty level I should choose between 3 and 4. In 3, I’m afraid that already in the middle of the game I will kill enemies with one or two hits and I won’t even have to think about oils and potions. At 4 I'm afraid that it will become boring for me to pick ordinary opponents for 5 minutes, that it will become an unpleasant monotonous routine. In addition, it looks so wild when a humanoid (robber) has to be cut with a sword 20 times before he dies.

You can change it at any time via the options menu for game play.

But then I won't get the steam achievement
It will be a sad if I end up switching to difficulty 4 and not getting the achievement at the end

It sounds like you've already weighed the pro's and con's between the top two difficulty levels... so what exactly are you looking for in this thread?

Dosn't really matter after the update Deathmarch is as easy as sword an story. How-ever if ya new to the whole Witcher 3, the combat can take getting used too, even with the modifications, if that's the case, I suggest the 2nd or 3rd option.

I'm currently attacking the frog prince at a measly level 4 on Deathmarch and winning(I just cant be botherd at the mo to spend the time it would take to kill him) The frog prince is considered 1 of the hardest boss's in the games and is a recommended level 34+

Since your not me, I suggest Deathmarch, an stick close to your level

I recommend playing it on normal. This isn't dark souls and has different combat controls, different resources and mechanics. If it's too easy on normal just delete the save game and restart with a harder difficulty. You have enough time to decide on the 1st map of the game which also acts as a tutorial map, an area where the player gets introduced to the game and gets to understanding its mechanics.

If you´ve played DS crank it up! Its quite easy as long as the enemies are not far above your level. do not use the "quen" sign for additional challenge, its kinda broken tbh.

Who really cares about achievements anyway? I mean, I guess you do, but, why? Play the game and enjoy it, if it means tweaking the difficulty at the cost of an achievement that means nothing, so be it.

If you must have them, just go death march and get used to it, worse case scenario you due a few times.

Playing on Death March currently and its not as hard as you would think. Sure you need to prepare for bigger fights (use the right oils on swords, use potions/decoctions etc) but its not super hard. Depends on how much of a challenge you like. If its too hard you can always lower the difficulty at any time.

sorry, I dont see the reason for this thread. which lollipop should I eat, the red or the green one? no, sorry. difficulty can be changed in the options menu at any time, tho except deathmarch, I think. I havent tried that.

People suggesting Deathmarch to a new player are trolling. Especially a new player who could not solo bosses in Dark Souls. Start off easy until you get used to the controls and the game systems, then start again at a higher level if you want. Witcher 3 is meant to be replayed many times so starting again not really a problem.

Gheeze. This is a bit like asking should one use a bow or a rifle to hunt with. Use the one you enjoy the most.

I could never understand why some have to get advice on how to enjoy a game. The answer is always the same. Play the way you like.

I chose 3 difficulty levels, and sometimes died from groups of enemies (animals and mutants). But after defeating the griffin, I realized that I had chosen too easy a level. It seems that the game has no other way out for a normal game, except to play on 4 or 4+.
It’s too lazy to start the game again, I’m one of those who cleans every location and every chest to the root. And it's quite long

I'm new to the game aswell. I'm not a real gamer but I do like to game.
I'm playing on the second highest difficulty and I'm struggling sometimes but it's manageable. I just finished the bloody baron and am finally getting used to the fighting (slightly)
If you are a gamer it should be easy enough I guess.

I agree with the person above me though.
I have fought monsters 1 on 1 that are 10 levels higher witouth issue.
But mobs lower then my level still kill me haha
