Regarding Importing a save from Witcher 2
Is there any way to check if you imported the correct save other than playing until you come across one of the decisions that carry over?

I ask this because the first decision that i think i'll be able to spot will be in regards fo Letho, and that's a long way into the game to figure it out if i messed up and chosed the wrong file when importing it.

So i'm asking, is there any other way to verify? My initial instict was to look for a saveeditor that i could check which decisions were imported, but alas i don't think there is one for Witcher 3.

As you noted, the time stamp was off by a few hours and the order was all messed up but it was still timestamped as the last save made. I ended up making a save game right at the beginning on Death March, just so I never have to import again...

The quicksave you used probably has all your decisions except the choice to spare Letho - for some reason they made it possible to import incomplete game saves from W2 to W3, maybe because they thought it would be fun to confuse people like this. :P Unfortunately the script adding Letho to the world executes after leaving Vizima and never again, and the console commands can't actually add him to the game, just edit the conditions telling the game whether to spawn him or not.

Not sure if there's a way to check it offhand, but if you haven't left White Orchard yet you can simply force him to be alive with console commands. To enable the console, you need to edit the general.ini file in \bin\config\base and add the lines:

DBGConsoleOn=true
ConfigVersion=2

Then in-game, hit ~ to activate it and type in "addfact(import_letho_alive)" while still in White Orchard.

ah I went past white orchard already.

thanks for the tip though. I'll just keep playing and figure it out. When choosing what save to use to import. i picked up the last quicksave i had from Witcher 2 (which i'm pretty sure i made just after the dialogue with Letho) So it should be fine. It's kind of annoying that the import mechanic doesn't list just the "completed saves" instead it shows literally every save i made in the witcher 2. I remember when i played Witcher 3 for the first time and when i imported i picked the first save that showed up on that list, which was the very first save i made in the witcher 2, during the prologue....

I regret removing that tatoo now, good way of checking if it imported correctly now that i think about it.

Yeah, the import process is a mess. I had deleted 90% of my saved games already and still had trouble with it, because it doesn't distinguish between the saves in any way except the time they were made. It seemed like there were more saves on the list than I had save files left as well, not sure what was going on there. I didn't spend a lot of time figuring it out, just scrolled through to find the latest date and used that one. I didn't remove the tattoo so I had a decent hint right from the start. :)

If it turns out you used the wrong save, you can still set Ghosts of the Past to completed and get Letho in Kaer Morhen with console commands, it's just a longer process. Here's[forums.cdprojektred.com] a thread that lists them all.

Just noticed this part. If you're sure you picked a quicksave, it's the wrong one and Letho won't be alive. The only save that will include your decision on Letho is the autosave made automatically after talking to him. You should probably go ahead and follow that link in my previous post, I doubt Letho will be there if you just continue playing.

are you sure about that? I don't even think my game made an autosave. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. gonna have to reinstalled witcher 2 to see which of my thousands of saves is the right one...

I haven't tried myself, but I've read in a few places that it has to be the autosave or it won't work.

Here and here[www.resetera.com] are two that popped out from a quick search.

thanks i'll just reinstall witcher 2 and figure it out which autosave is the correct one..

Okay it looks like it did created an autosave for the end cutscene. That one works right? the one with dandelion talking about what happened, i can use that one to import in the witcher 3 right?

You know another thing that is really annoying about this import feature. The timestamp for when the save was made in the witcher 2, and the one that is shown in the witcher 3 do not match with each other. I found the autosave that i was talking about it right, and in the witcher 2 (as well as in the description of the files shown by the OS) the save was made at 01:07 AM. But when going to the Import window in The Witcher 3, it shows as 04:07 AM.

So it's just a giant mess to find it, no wonder i'm always paranoid when starting a new witcher 3 save with the import mechanic that i picked the wrong freaking save.
It's so incredible, i mean in the Witcher 2, it correctly shows the last autosave FIRST. Literally, but in The Witcher 3, the last autosave is like somewhere near the bottom, but not quite at the bottom, had to scroll a bit to find it.

Anyway, rant aside. Just to confirm it. That auto save, the one for the epilogue with Dandelion, it works to import your decisions right?

The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Can't thank you enough for posting this, because it actually worked like a charm and I can now use my console commands once again.

The simple foolproof way to do it is when you start a new game you will eventually see a screen prompt that says

Enable prompt to enter Witcher 2 choices" and just set it to ON

Then when you get to Vizima and while you are getting a shave Morvran Voorhis will ask you questions and your answers simulate what you did in Witcher 2. From the Witcher Wiki:

If you chose to simulate a save, the conversation is much longer, where Voorhis will ask a number of questions:

Did you kill Aryan La Valette, during the siege of La Valette Castle? The only effect this has is a slightly different interaction with Maria Louisa La Valette and Molly's status during Broken Flowers.

Did you go with Roche or Iorveth? This has a small effect on a conversation choice during Get Junior, when you visit Roche's camp for the first time.

Did you save Triss Merigold or Anaïs La Valette? (If chose Roche Path)

Did you save Triss Merigold or Saskia? (If chose Iorveth Path)

Note: Triss lives no matter whether you saved her or not. By choosing Roche's path, Saskia will not be cursed but Geralt will not know Saskia's true form, Triss is then saved by Letho. By choosing Iorveth's path the "optimal" choice is straight forward, saving Saskia, because Triss lives anyway.

Did you spare Sile de Tansarville? If she survived she'll have a small appearance in The Great Escape.

Did you kill or spare the witcher Letho? If you mention that Letho is dead, Ghosts of the Past cannot be accessed nor will he be available to help during The Battle of Kaer Morhen.

Here it is in action ... Go to the 10 minute and 15 second mark
