How to play the right way?
I didn't know how to word it better lol.

I know there's no right or wrong way but I think most will know what I mean and I hope to get answers from those and not the 'do whatever you want' comments.

I do so many more side quests then main quest I'm afraid I might do to many?

For example with the secondary quests/ treasure hunts/contracts I'm between quests levels 25-35 but main story I'm around quest 15-18

Should I balance it out a bit more or is this pretty much how it's supposed to be?

Just had the convo with yennefer about Uma (in Skellige on the beach) so I think the ugly baby quest might be around the corner and is about the halfway point in game from what I've read.

My character is level 28 now. So pretty level with side quests but over leveled for main quests...I think.

Unfortunately, the game is very badly balanced in this way, which is why I haven't played the vanilla game for years, only with mods. If you don't just ignore many of the side quests you will always end up overleveling even on the highest difficulty. There's not much you can do about that. If you just want to follow the main story, the path is clearly set by the level caps. Velen - Novigrad - Skelliege in this order.

You can enable the option to have Enemies keep up with your Character level via Upscaling, that way you'd always have the intended challenge more or less, instead of steamrolling through content.

Alright thanks. I figured that might have been the case. I guess I will follow the main story again soon.

If it's your very first time playing, then I guess you should just focus on the story, keep in mind. this game is designed to played through on NG+ too, and you wont have any of your full witcher abilites until you finish blood and wine, and then you'll use that save file to start a new playthrough.

That said, this game is best played with an auto leveler mod that makes it possible to free roam wherever you want and at all times, and Geralt auto scales to enemy levels, instead of vice versa, I forget the name of the mod, but it greatly rebalances the game so you can go and explore whereever you want.

It is my very first time yeah.

I might be interested in some mods, but for now I stick with original game.

It's definitely not designed to be played on NG+ too. NG+ wasn't even a thing when the game released.

Explore, Some folks don't explore and moss out on so much stuff, like weapon and armour schematics fancy weapons and armour Regular, magic, and relic.
Every cave, every house every hole in the ground, make sure to use ya "witcher senses" to scan for chests and loot, there's often good stuff hidden "off route"

I recommend the CAT potion when stumbling in the dark.... Tourche's just illuminate the immediate area.

Whats right or wrong for you, is for you to decide, but what I do is:

- It try to do the sidequests in an area before moving to the next
- I do sidequests in order of level, easiest first, hardest later
- I do main quests... when I feel like it. Or when all side quests in an area ar done.
- In between I do a bit of exploration. I do treasure hunts when a set I like is 'ripe', meaning my level is high enough to use it.

In regards to mods here, I'd suggest you get a mod that changes the level influence on rewards. Due to added content there is now simply too much to do. If you do all side quests, you will constantly be above the recommended level so far that you get no rewards anymore, which sucks.

This might sound a little weird. I find the game very very overwhelming. I made a conscious decision pretty early on to not use any concoctions potions and oils.
My brain can't handle all this at once lol. Only the occasional bomb for monster nests.
I play on blood and broken bones now.
In ng+ will will play death March and will start using oils and stuff.

This is actually almost exactly what I do aswell. So you also are way over leveled for main.
