After Next-Gen Update Witcher 3 starts no more. Any Help?

Hey everyone,

After installing the Next-Gen Update, Witcher 3 isn't starting at all at my computer anymore. No matter if I start the DX12 or DX11 version, the game simply doesn't start. In the Task-Manager the task is there, but stuck at around 300MB RAM and not loading further.

When I downgrade the game to before the Next-Gen Update, it starts fine.

I already did a complete reinstall of Witcher 3, means, I deleted all files and downloaded it again via Steam.

Anyone an idea, why it doesn't start with the Next-Gen Update installed?

you deleted all game files. did you delete all the .settings files also in folder
Documents\The Witcher 3

go to the game folder then the bin folder then x64 for the dx11 version or x64_dx12 for the dx12 version

run the witcher3.exe from there. sometimes an error msg pops up (missing library, antivirus, etc)

if you have an nvidia graphics card run geforce experience then optimize the game thru that then try the game again. maybe graphics settings need somewhere to start.

I did delete the settings too, but didn't help too.
Directly starting the witcher3.exe files isn't working too, same issue as when started from steam. Not starting and Task get stuck at around 300MB RAM.

I have a AMD graphics card, can the driver of it also optimize the game like geforce experience?

perhaps first check antivirus log. might be blocking the game

I do not use an external antivirus, simply the windows defender and there I found no clues, that it blocks witcher from starting properly.

Any other ideas or suggestions?

Mods? What are your actual specs?

I have no mods at all installed at the moment.

My PC-Specs are:

Win11 Pro
Ryzen 7 5800X
64GB RAM
Radeon RX 6600 XT
Mainboard Chip is a B450

Have I missed anything?

this has worked for a number of users. some setting/permission in their account is preventing the game from working.

create a new local windows account on your pc. use a simple login like "games" without the quotations.
logout.
login with the new account
start steam then start the game.

Sadly this didn't work either.
I contacted CD Project Red Support, lets see if they have an idea...

just found the problem, mine installing mods that create "patch0" and "patch1" folder inside the content folder... just DELETE both, and everything works fine!

just uninstalling game its not enough. Make sure u manualy delete whole instalation game folder after uninstalling. Then reinstall game again.

Install DirectX updater and c+ visual redist. Aio pack:

Install latest update driver for ur GPU

and run W3 exe with administrator privilage.

community hub says there are over 28000 in game. so the game works. looks like there is still some problem on your pc. but without an error msg, can only suggest things.

is the game creating the folder

no user.settings yes dx12user.settings
Game loads, and I can start a new game, but as soon as the cut scene ends, CTD. Which is worse than my last attmept to play a month or so ago, when I could at least reach the scene where the wild hunt takes Ciri before CTD. The game is getting worse, not better.

this is only for the cases were the task is stuck forever in the task manager

try to run the games exes with compatibility mode with win 7(if u are in 8, 10 or 11), this seems like a generic steam problem this fix works sometimes.
ull find it by right clicking the exes and in the compatibility tab.

so try run the redprelauncher exe in the main folder, and try to run the witcher 3 exe in bin, x64, and the one bin, x64 dx12.
