Game crash at launch after the new gen update (PC)

I have not been able to launch the game after the next gen update. It does not seem to be an issue with the directX-issue I have found discussed. When I put in the launch code for directx11 it still crashes (-dx11 in the general options for the game). Anyone experiencing the same issue?

You can pick DX version in the RED launcher.
Make sure you cleaned out any old mods as most old mods need to be updated and cause issues otherwise.
Ideally, you make a fresh install and while doing so remove documents/Witcher 3 directory aswell (after backing up your savegames from that directory).
And the usuals ofc, making sure drivers are up to date ec.

Thx Winneh, but the problem is not related to the DX version. As i write I launch it with DX-11 and it does not help. I do not have the RED Launcher. I have turned off all overlays and I have never had any mods installed. I have also tried to check the file integrity function on Steam, and I have clean installed the game after cleaning out all local files. The game still crash during launch. In my opinion it looks like the developers have pushed an update that is not compatible with my PC. I have 393 hours of game play on this game and was just starting a new play through as I waited for the next gen update. Now it seems Red has desided I have played enough

launch the dx11 version of the game from the game folder
...\steam\steamapps\common\the witcher 3\bin\x64\witcher3.exe
sometimes an error msg appears not hidden by steam (missing library, AV popup, etc)

check windows event viewer AND windows reliability history. any error msg would help

and if you have reinstalled and verified game files, why isnt the redprelauncher.exe in folder
..\steam\steamapps\common\the witcher 3
your antivirus deleting files?

Thx, Cheshirm, this solved it. Launching it from the folder directly did the trick. Maybe the launch code for directX11 in Steam doesn't work? Anyways, I'm greatful for your help. I also checked you q. on the RED launcher - the file is there, but launching it doesn't do anything else than starting the game as if I did it from steam.

at least you can play. looks like some issue with the red launcher. maybe a future patch will fix it. have fun.

make a shortcut to the witcher3.exe. then drag/drop to desktop and launch from the shortcut

There are some issues you can resolve simply reverting back to DX11. Quite unfortunate CDPR didn't optimize game for DX12.

I tried that too and it always crashes on launch. I've been checking the discussions for more than two weeks now and nothing fixed it so far. Thanks for the suggestion though.

When I launch the classic witcher via shortcut I can't take a screenshots with F12 or access an overlay. And Steam can't see the game is launched.

op wanted the game to work. it works starting the game from the game .exe. you wantsteam and the launcher with all its overlays to work. perhaps start a new thread
