It depends on HOW you start that DLC, as there's two different ways to do so. If you start the DLC by following the quest "Envoys, Wineboys", which shows up at notice boards once Dandelion's been rescued, you take all your possessions into the DLC. If you start the DLC from the in-game main menu, then it's a fresh start, with a level 34 Geralt and with weapons and armor of that same level.

Thank you so much that was super informative! im literally 29 atm been grinding all side missions before main ones and gonna give it a couple more days grind then jump into it.

Just curious tho instead of starting it at level 35 what if i grinded to say like 40 will i be 5 levels higher than enemies in blood and wine? :3

They go up to about 50 in normal without scaling on. And you can always just put scaling on if it gets too easy.
<3 thank you everyone have a blessed holiday <3

Personally i recommend you finish hearts of stone and fully unlock the runewright before starting blood and wine. There are two reasons for that, the first is that the runewright has a bunch of really powerful sword and armor enchantments that depending on your playstyle and build can make you a lot more powerful. The second reason is that throughout the hearts of stone dlc you'll have the opportunity to get the legendary venomous viper witcher gear set (not to be confused with the normal viper steel and silver witcher swords you can get early game). It's a level 39 witcher gear set (full set is comprised of 4 armor pieces and 2 swords, one silver and one steel). It's significantly more powerful than any of the mastercrafted witcher gear sets you can get at the end of the main story and is the most powerful gear set in the game outside of blood and wine so it can easily carry you through a large portion of blood and wine until you can fully unlock and craft one of the grandmaster gear sets. It is pretty easy to miss the chance to acquire the full gear set however(especially the silver sword) so i can tell you exactly how to acquire the full set.(I will need to spoil some of hearts of stone though).

Btw, OP. It's a general consensus that the best order to play game and the DLCs is to finish the main game first, then do Heart of Stone, THEN do Blood and Wine. The reason for this is because the end of Blood and Wine sets up a nice conclusion for the end of Geralt's adventures.

Blood and Wine can be continued from the main game or you can start a new game with Blood and Wine only. I would continue from main game but the choice is yours.

Just a heads up, game was recently updated. Some people have issues with the performance as you can see from recent reviews being lower than the overall reviews. If you experience issues I would suggest reverting to the old version (right click game icon, properties, betas, and choose the old version). I would suggest you see if performance is to your liking at the start since reverting to the old version makes your save incompatible so you don't want to revert 4hours in and lose 4 hours of progress.
