Will "Nex-Gen" look better than heavily modded game?
Tittle.

Mmmm. Lighting wise yes as it will feature ray tracing, texture wise I believe mods have the upperhand but the Next Gen might be better optimized than a heavily modded game

Didn't I hear that the HD Reworked mod is included? Maybe I'm wrong.

You're not wrong, they mentioned it during the livestream and the mod author confirmed it on his Nexus page.
So it will have mods already included? seriously? that's so cool!!!

not just various mods, like HD Reworks...

Also other 4k textures they remade and far better lighting and more foliage...
they're also having bug fixes, quest fixes and are adding QoL stuff. such as no longer needing that obnoxious way of casting signs. but now, like in most games, you just press 1 button and another to activate the sign. Instead of needing to open a wheel, slow down time, select spell, go out the wheel etc. Why the F do we even need to idiotic console specific design of a "weapon wheel" on pc. just get rid of that junk in any game to be honest.

And in graphics options you can then also go to Ultra+ for better stuff all around if your pc can handle it.

There will be DLSS/FSR support

and next time they'll announce more things they're doing. hopefully also pc specs will be mentioned on what is needed to run everything maxed out at 1440p. would be nice.

Don't tell those who are crying and whining about not wanting the free upgrade. you might break their stupid way of thinking since they are clearly showing to have no clue what is included in the update.

No. The update by itself doesn't look any better since it doesn't use the all graphic mods that are out. However, the new updated game modded out will look better than the original modded out with the slight improvement in lighting and ssr. Dlss and Fsr are a bonus also.

I mean, it doesn't have to use "ALL the graphics mods" on the Nexus, lmao... all other mods besides HD Reworked Project are subjective changes. Some people like them, some don't. Some change the vibe of the game too drastically. From a developer point of view, it made sense to use HDRP as a base because it keeps the original vision of the game, just makes it better. They wouldn't use all the "E3 thiCC Yennefer / Triss l0rE-fRIenDLY" mods just because they can xD What they've done is actually pretty respectable, considering it's not even a remaster or anything of the sort. The ray-tracing and everything will act as an even stronger foundation for future mods. DLSS / FSR performance boost will actually let us push the game's graphics with mods to levels where we previously couldn't. Remember the fps hits when raising grass density / shadow distance, etc...? We're also getting the Ultra+ settings natively, which is basically that.

Next Gen Update looks to improve more and better, than I first thought on hearing about it.

Also keep in mind that after the update -- it will still be moddable.

So it may not look better NOW than a fully modded game is NOW...

...but it will by next year when the updated game is again fully modded beyond the update, after the modders update and make new mods for the update.

It only stands to reason.

I may not understand, but are you referring to the way it is done now on gaming consoles? Using a controller? I am playing the game now on my PC and I only have to move the middle mouse button to a sign I want to use and then hit Q to use. No wheel is even seen. I rarely use the wheel.

If this is the case then I'll deactivate the HD rework mod and play with the nextgen update settings. If the mod is not broken after update I may try comparing the two.

It literally is included, author himself said so on his mod page. You will not need the mod when next-gen update comes out, as the next-gen update will actually cover even more textures than the mod itself, as Halk Hogan worked with CDPR on the patch. However, Halk also said that he's not fully done with HDRP yet, and will likely update it even further as time goes on. Basically, the next-gen update will act as a fantastic foundation for mods to come.
yeah they reached out to halk hogan to work on the update and used his mod to save time and allow the devs to focus more on other areas.

It would have been awesome if they included a few of the top weather and lighting mods as options in the settings menu.
