witcher medallion required to cast signs
I read in a thread here on this board that witcher medallions are the only means by which witcher's may cast signs but I've read a few of the books and never found this to be true.

Anyone know more lore behind the medallions? When they are training Ciri in the books she has trouble casting signs but they expect her to succeed at some point and she never is given a medallion.

The medallions are more to just represent which witcher school you originate from. But the medallions is also sensitive to magic in all forms but it's no foolproof as certain types of monsters remain undetected by it.

It being a requirement use for signs however? no.

which monsters..... if i remember right only Regis was undetected by medalion

When Schirru takes Geralt medallion he tells his gang that Geralt can't cast signs anymore because of it. But he was most likely miss informed.

The medallion is just to inform of his trait. But it also reacts to magic and magical creatures. Which is nice.

Ciri has the Elder Blood. She is potentially the most powerful magic user in existence, if she can ever learn to control her powers.

Yeah, they are puzzled with Ciri at first because she couldn't even manage the most basic signs. I've only gotten as far in the series as 'The Time Of Contempt' was the last one I read i think
