How to Import your Savegames from GOG to Steam

Here are 7 steps how to easily import your GOG files into the Steam version:

1) First locate your safegames from GOG: X:\Username\Documents\The Witcher 3\gamesaves
2) Install The Witcher 3 on Steam
3) Find out your Game URL/ ID at right clicking in the game in your library and press properties. There you can see your game URL/ID
4) Locate your game file: PC/programs(x86)/Steam/userdata/"your Steam ID"/"the URL/ID of your Game"
5) Copy the whole gamesafe file into the file mentioned above
6) Install all the DLCs you had in the GOG version, or install all of them (otherwise you cant start the game because the safefiles are safed with the data of the DLCs)(you dont have to buy the DLCs which cost sth if you didnt had them in your GOG version)
7 )After you installed all the DLCs you can start the game and when you safe it will synchronize with your Steam Cloud (Better check if the Steam Cloud is activated and check the game, after you closed it if the game synchronizes)

Hi, I'm about to try it according your instructions. But what about if I have game on GOG and already finished main story and HoS, but I don't have Blood and Wine. Will it work if I buy W3 GOTY here and transfer my saves? Will I be able to play B&W or New Game + with my char.?

Or (if not) do I have to buy the basic version+HoS, transfer saves and then buy B&W?:)

I just want to say - A HUGE THANK YOU OP! I spent 5 hours on grim dawn then picked up all the dlc's, etc on GOG. I thought I lost all of that save info but this worked for the opposite too! Granted I had to do a lot more research but this was a great building step, so thank you :)))
