4K with a GTX 980M
Hey guys. I got my new laptop today that has a 980M card along with an i7-4720HQ CPU. I already knew that I'd be unable to play at 4K resolution on even the current best mobile GPU with decent frame rates, so I was wondering your thoughts on whether the game would look better played on Ultra at 1080p, or at 4K with all the settings set to Medium, which I think would give me close to 30FPS - which is perfectly acceptable for myself? Cheers!

I think 4k on a laptop is pretty useless..
I'd go for 1080 and a middle point between ultra/60fps

To be honest I've been fidling around with it. I can play at 4K at medium settings at around 25FPS (though I should imagine it would drop lower in Novigrad!) and it looks gorgeous, and I can get around 40FPS at 2K with NVIDIA hairworks turned on, which is the option I've gone for in regards to my new play through. But you're right in that on a 15.6" screen the differences are extremely minor, though I do see quite a difference between 1080p and 4K even on such a small screen when switching between the two.

Cheers for the response buddy, always appreciated!

As usual you may notice when comparing the two of them but... At 1080 in ultra and 60fps is much more better experience..
Enjoy!

You're not gonna be playing at ultra with a 980m and a 4720, I have a better rig and i have my options mixed with high and ultra textures at 1080p. And thats just barely keeping it from dropping any frames. If you're alright with the game stuttering or dropping to 40 frames then you might be able to handle it. (Too lazy to delete what i just wrote) i just noticed you siad you're alright with 1080 at 30 fps so first of all, ew, and second, i think you'll be able to handle it

Hi buddy

Sorry, only just saw your messsage as haven't been on Steam for a good few days. But yeah, I'm used to being locked to 30FPS on consoles to be honest so playing at 25FPS isn't that much of an issue for myself really. Though as mentioned, I've found a sweet spot at 2K that allows me to play on average around 50 frames per second, and the game looks so much better than on the PS4 which is what I was after!
