it happens to me sometimes. not very often but sometimes after fast travel? or using freecam or morphing into a dragon/vampire bat then flying somewhere and morphing back again.
reloading an earlier save always fixes it for me. dosent happen often enough for me to complain about. not sure why some people have frequent problems with the bug.
input conflict? or a game error where the system cant determine the players location/player state.
try this - verify the game files,
meditate,
continue the main quest - sometimes it fixes itself after some time
It happened after I installed Fast Travel From Everywhere I guess, but I didn't break any quest (had it setup for barely 3 - 4 h of free explore).
Any console commands to reset Roach or make him pop?
Already tried:
-waiting (7 days)
-rebooting
-verifying game files
-saving then loading
-loading older save (from 2017 of another playthrough)
-changing whistling hotkey
-doing quests
- Bug has happened to me about 15 times in all my time playing TW3 (not that many, TBH)
- Happens only on Steam version (~215 hours played) never on GOG version (~150 hours played).
- Happens only while using my XBox One wireless controller, cannot be replicated with K+M and happens both with controller plugged via USB and unplugged.
- Happens mostly after using a signpost for fast travelling.
- I solve it by pausing the game and alt+tabbing, or bringing out the inventory/menu. For me, no reloading/restarting needed. After unpausing or opening again the game window, the function works properly and Geralt is able to whistle again.
- Last time it happened was yesterday about 6.30 PM, solved as described above.
Since for me it is quite easy to solve, it's more of a minor annoyance than a true gamebreaking issue. I hope you find some of the info useful.
what other mods do you have? ive always used a 9000 carryweight mod and as far as im aware, roach dosent have a stash inventory?
spawn a generic clone of roach you can ride. cant whistle for it, no map icon, dosent follow.
spawn('playerHorse')
couldnt get this to work. not sure what it does.
spawn('horse_manager')
there is this pretty substantial game configuration mod which lets you instantly call & mount roach.
Game Configuration Menu
https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/1509
its a bit long winded to see if it makes any difference but i guess its worth a stab in the dark.
i guess you could remove "user.settings" "user.settings.bak" & "input.settings" and try another verify. keep your old ones safe somewhere.
C:\Users\xxx\Documents\The Witcher 3
and maybe make a backup copy of your current config folder in "bin".
remove it and verify to replace it with a fresh one. (remember, your old one may contain inportant mod data/files)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Witcher 3\bin\config
try a new game wothout any mods.
uugghh, long ting i know..

I tried autoloot and may have messed with some INIs. Tried deleting INIs in my documents, same thing but you give me the idea to delete / reinstall game (clearing persistant files) and try to load my saves. Will update!
I brought back my darling by loading older save. Lost almost 2 levels but hey, don't need to reroll, that's a relief. Mods are working fine (didn't add Friendly Stash this time though, just in case)
I won't go to that island anytime soon (when you're done fighting with Keira against one of the Wild Hunt soldier, you get out of a cave, there is an island with a sunken treasure in front of that, just don't call Roach here)
Thanks for your time people, enjoy W3 during those holidays.
You can't call Roach cause he is overburdened (was using him as the stash) and you can't find him cause the game made him desapear. To fix this you need to go to the Mod Menu -> Friendly Stash, and set "Stash Menu access mode" to "Full". Now you only need to go to the stash menu, take all the itens from Roach until he is not overburdened anymore and press X to call him, and that shall fix the problem. It did for me at least.
This was the fix for me also. Thank you!
