"Stealing" from houses
So basically why do they completely allow you to steal from cities? before the game was kinda difficult on hard difficulty when i actually had to consider buying food and stuff. Now i literally have over 100 waters alone. Just cause during my time in Novigrad every house has so much loot in it that's free for the taking. Each quest allows me to get so much food and alchemy supplies just from looting the houses you go through...

Well the guards will attack you if they see you stealing. And they will also have +15 levels above yourself.

But you can always just run away a hundred meters and return, they'll be friendly again.

Yea I mostly meant inside the cities houses. But either way i'm only level 17 on hard difficulty an have so much food you would think i have already beat the game or something.

Yeah the looting system is really whacked which is why it's mind-boggling when people complain that they don't have enough money. You can literally steal everything you need and then some, swap out gear constantly, repair everything for free thanks to found kits, craft everything you need thanks to looted materials and still make money from selling off the surplus.

Game is not balanced at all, any way you look at it. It has many, many flaws. From quests that give far too much xp until you're overleveld, then it gives just 2 xp. To looting which is possible nearly everywhere you go. To becoming so overpowered later in the game, that nothing is much of a challenge.

Yeah agreed, stepping into Novigrad i had like 8,000 gold to my name. Now that im done most of the quests here i have around 24,000 and about 500 things of food and drinks. Not to mention i have so many alchemy ingredients that i actually considered selling some...but then i can never make myself sell something that takes up no weight.

I just told myself it was part of the Witcher Code or some cultural anomaly that allows me to just help myself to everything that isn't nailed down. The peasants never seem to mind, they don't wind up starving in the streets and don't even seem to notice or care. In a world like that, NOT helping yourself to valuable resources is just plain idiotic.

Out on the streets, you simply look into boxes/packages, etc. which then triggers the guards to get upset. Back out and that upset guard will decide it's time to go on patrol. Let him get twenty feet away or so and then clean out the container. Thank you very much.

Those alchemical ingredients are the most valuable items in the game. Various dusts for example will make you rich! I sell most of each item and keep some for myself since I don't know what they are for. The rest is pure, lovely profit.

Being broke in this game is a choice.
