What should I know about this quest? Does keeping Ciri away from battle matter?

It has long boss fights, don't rush those, take your time. The boss fights could be too long for my taste but unlike some of the more annoying ones (cough *crones*) I did these with first try without dying even once on max difficulty.

You'll get to fight Caranthir as both Ciri and Geralt since it's a two-part fight. It's scripted that way. It's a nice boss fight both times.

Just use your head. Dodge and roll as much as possible to flank for a clear opening. With Ciri, use her dashes as much as possible to avoid taking hits and to put yourself closer to him for some of your own. Ditto for Geralt when it's his turn. Dodge, roll and take your shots when you can. Use Quen to protect yourself. Igni works well on him too.
