living statues, how to fight?
Is there some trick to fighting them? The mages not only do a lot of damage (roughly 4 hits to kill me), but they also have a lightning bolt like attack that is target seeking and requires non stop rolling to dodge.
I cant get close to the mages because they can do some kind of knockback attack and still use their spells unhindered even when i hit them (unlike crossbow wielding enemies). If i dont get close to them i cant really do any damage and if i do get close i die in seconds. I tried dimeterium bombs but they just walk out of the cloud and continue their spell casting (finally a fight where they should be usefull but arent). All other bombs simply get reflected away by their shield ability, so i cant freeze them with northern wind or burn them with dancing star.

The only reliable way i have found to damage them is with quen shield reflection, but that takes a lot of time and rolling around. I feel like i must have missed something because right now it feels like they are the hardest fight in the game

It's hard at start, but try killing mages first

Did you try the "running up the stairs" method?

I did it with running up the stairs. Healed up there, go down and kill one of mages, run back up, heal, repeat.

Still consider it one of the hardest fights in whole game.

well that is the issue. I simply cant just straight up kill the mages. Unlike normal ranged units these dont get interrupted and continue to cast spells and they have a knockback shield spell. Wich makes it impossible to engage them in close combat unless i can stun them, but then the 2nd one will just shoot me.

In the end i managed to do it with running up the stairs. This way they stopped beeing aggresive until i came down again and they spread out. When i ran down the stairs i went around the corner and used axii to convert the mage close to the stairs (at that time the 2nd one was too far to interrupt me). The pike units almost killed the mage and the mage in return slaughtered them. With 1 enemy converted it was actually possible to keep converting them and have them kill each other. (without running up the stairs i doubt i would ever have gotten the time to do so).

In the end it still felt like it is the thoughest fight in the game. At least nothing from the main game comes even close

Yeah haha it's wierd how some side quest has so hard fight, I remember it being pain in the ass when playing normal game wih story and sword, I'm scared because I'm playing ng+ on deathmarch now

I used northern wind, easy fight

Northern wind FTW, cos dvimeritium bombs are useless.

As I remember it, the mages were using the lit torches like turrets, causing them to spit fire bolts at Geralt. I used aard to extinguish them as I dodged about. Running up the stairs may put you out of their range.

on deathmarch, this is definitely one of the hardest fights i've encountered, and i finished the game like 5 times by now. As previously mentioned, northern wind helps alot, also make sure to frequently use quen + white raffard decoctions. The undying perk is great aswell.

honestly dont trust the recommended level thingy either, save that one for when you are positively without a doubt overleveled, tried in on ll 39 just walked by thought it was interesting died way too much, that fight is just as unbalanced as can be with 6 spearguys iirc and 2 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mages which rain down firespells on you as if with a machine gun and all that in a cramped space where you can barely dodge out of the way.

I found the easiest way was to run up the stairs to the point where they won't attack you and cast puppet. It may tell you "You can't attack this target" but using a light attack will allow you to be able to cast the spell while technically out of bounds. Not the most challenging or fun way to beat the fight, but it gets the job done.

Damn Dude. I legit died 15 times then tried it this way once and the mages got wrecked by the spearmen. Thanks m8!
