Let's leave side quests out of this. Not everyone is a fan of side-quests and find that it doesn't fit in with the main narrative. Some people prefer to play a more "focused" game you know. Having said that, I did play a number of side quests.
This discussion is about the main quest content.
Also, "Storm the Castle" is not close to the end. There's not that many quests left, but they're quite long, and the story has a big fork in it that with some mutual exclusive paths.
Incorrect, it was advertised as 10 hours of content for HoS and 20 hours of content for Blood and Wine. The content includes the main narrative and the side content.
I haven't played Blood and Wine yet, so I can't make a judgement there, but for the side content and the main narrative of HoS it took me 15 hours to complete 100% of that content, and going by what is known about Blood and Wine, no doubt it will take a lot more than 15 hours for that since it has a lot more content than HoS does.
My next run I plan to try and do everything before finishing the main quest. I might even take the other path in the main quest just to mix things up. Failed one quest rushing through. that won't happen again.
Strongly depends on how you would play the game :)
