Should I finish the story before playing Hearts of Stone?
I'm planning on getting the season pass, but wanted to know if I should finish the main story before starting on the first DLC. From a story perspective, does it make sense to play Hearts of Stone before finishing up the story? Or is it more of a continuation meant to take place after the main story is completed?

I'm still only level 12 and like 15 hours in (great game) but from what I've seen and heard you can do HoS at like level 35 before finishing the game but BaW should be after the main game

Both can be done before the main games finale. Its honestly up to you :P

HOS fits fine before the end, just do it when you are sufficiently levelled. If you play HOS before the end you can ask Triss about the scar. I've not got to the point of B&W this playthrough but intend to leave it until the end.

Are you sure? I think in today start the B & W, it will not affect anything of the main story? (I am level 40)

IMHO, Heart of Stone fits quite well in the middle of the game. I myself finished it in NG+ just before beginning Pyre of Novigrad. Although I don't see why someone shouldn't be doing it after the main story line.

Okay, thanks guys. I'm level 31 so I should be high enough level to do it. I'll start it before I finish the game.

My first playthrough I finished HoS before I finished the main questline. My second playthrough I finished the main questline first.

Finishing the main questline first makes more sense in my opinion considering that the HoS quests are higher level than all of the main questline. But as others said, it's totally up to you.

It is up to you both heart of stone and blood and wine which i am on now are seperate quest that can be done during or after the main story line think of it this way the main story line is like one movie and the other two are like two other movies with the same main geralt character nothing you do in either heart of stone or blood and wine afects the main story line . You can also play them with a seperately artifically enhanced chararcter.

My advice would be to finish the main story line first i personaly felt I needed to take a break from it as the main story line has a lot of hours to it also I know it is suposed to be fun and a game but I think if i decided to do Hos . When you can in the main story line Right after poet under preshure . I would be feeling that I need to get back to do the main story line stuff first I waited to finish the main story line before hos and was glad i did it that way . even trying to keep my game play to the minimum needed to complete the story I still ended up doing a lot of side quest.

Well, story-wise it is better to start and finish it before the end of main quest ( otherwise it breaks the immersion: after the end of MQ, Nilfgaard conquers the north with Novigrad, yet if you play HoS after MQ, Novigrad is still occupied by Redanian troops and witch-hunters). Perhaps start before Reason of State quest, but better be around level 32-34...
I think that Blood and Wine was meant to be played after MQ ( because of the ending ).

It's a completely autonomous story, but I advice you to complete the main quest at first, to gain the minimum level recommended to the dlc, which is around 30.
