Buckthorn Potion - bugged? HELP PLEASE

I am in one of the first quests and need to make the Buckthorn potion to fight the Griffon. As I see in walkthroughs the stuff appears in your Alchemy list of stuff and is easily produced into a potion.
My Buckthorn is listed as "quest item, alchemy ingredient" and is not on the alchemy list. I tried everything to transfer it any which way, nothing works. i even tried to drop it to get some more but it does not let me drop it either. Diving for more just adds to the "quest item": list. WTF

I am totally frustrated. What to do, do I have to drop the first main quest already???????? due to bug?

There are potions and decoctions you need to craft for a quest but are not usable among the regular alchemy consumables. It's why they're listed under Quest items, not Alchemy items. In the alchemy crafting menu, they're always on the very bottom in a separate drop section.

You basically continue with your quest as usual, nothing bugged.
