Witcher 3 Soundtracks Copyright
So I own Witcher 3 and I'm planning to use the tracks from Witcher 3 in one of my Minecraft mod. I'm wondering if there are any copyright issue I should be aware of. Any help is appreciated

i belive so. while you own the product, you do not own the rights to this product.

Well, yeah. The music is copyrighted and you're not allowed to use it without permission. (And you'd best get that in writing.)

You don't "own" the soundtrack (or any other digital media these days), you own the right to personal noncommercial/nonaltered use as per default.
You can listen to it, but you can't do anything that's not listed under personal use. You also cannot alter it (unless you want a cut for your ringtone or something, i bet they don't care about that), like it would be the case if you put it to a mod.
It can be particularly bad copyright infringment if you plan on monetizing/selling the mod.

The mod will be for free but post on public. Will there be any problem then?

Also soundtrack won't be altered

yes, it is still copyrighted. The sound track is for you to listen too, and nobody else. Fair Use allows you to use it for some things, like educational purposes, critique, and remixes, but not using it in a mod.

Did you even read my message? I believe it was as thorough as it possibly can for this case. Not to mention all the people who told you how wrong it is.

Here's again, in case you missed it:

***adding it to a mod IS altering, because you are using the song within another program, or in this case a mod. Even if you don't cut it, it's still altering and undergoes some sort of compression.
Putting it on the public domain is as far NON-PERSONAL USE as it can get, and it goes under the category of those nonlicensed youtube music videos with only song and album cover photo (songs usually ripped from torrents).
It's a very clear copyright infringement and is MORALLY and LEGALLY wrong.
Plenty of websites with copyright/royalty-free music, do your research and leave other people's intellectual property alone (not just music).

First of all. Thanks for being unnecessary aggressive and nasty. Second. It should be apparent to anyone that I'm NOT familiar with copyright laws, and since your original comment contained no soild yes or no. It just doesn't make much sense to me. Third. I DON'T need you to tell me what is morally right or wrong. The only reason I wish to use Witcher 3 soundtracks is because how much I admire them. All I need is a soild answer with a piece of reason next to it. NOT someone on the internet to teach me about morals.

I'm not being aggressive, nor nasty, I'm being frustrated.
And frankly, if you've had to deal with copyright infringement, you wouldn't be so laid-back about it either.

My original comment contained exactly what you asked for - very clear not ok to use and the reasons why:

As well as every other comment in the thread who told you that it's very illegal.
If you didn't find sense in that, then clearly there's a moral blank somewhere in there, so i guess my "pinpoint" wasn't entirely without a reason.

Only that should've been enough for you to either look up copyrighted material usage, or if legal matters are too overwhelming, and they certainly can be - follow my advice and find royalty free sources instead.

Saying "well i love it so much it's why i want to use it" and "don't teach me morals" are the two reasons why the entire issue of copyright infringement exists, solely because of people who think everything on the internet/digital media is free for use.

I'm not attacking you by no means, it's a frustrating matter and if you get burned with intellectual property,or see the frustration of the people having to deal with it on a daily basis (most recently Ford dealership stole images from Firewatch and used them as promotional materials), you will see sense into it. The sooner your moral horizon on the matter of copyrights is changed, the "+1 person better person" place the internet will be.

Your frustration does not make any sense to me. This discussion was started only because I couldn't really find any straight answers online and because I'm aware of the existence of copyright infringement. This is not me waving a flag saying "I'm gonna take Witcher 3 music and you can't do anything about it". This is a simple "can I, why not" question.

Your original post stated 3 things I cannot do. "You can't use it beyone personal use." Well how far does this personal use goes? I'm not familiar with it, it's why I asked. "You can't alter it." The word alter can have varies degree and meaning. "You can't use sell your mod with the music." Well I'm not making a penny off of this mod.

Every other threads before my second comment gave me very vague explanations and I simply wished to get more information

Your example shows a company stealing another company's product for their own profit, where as I only wish to use it in a non-profitable fun project.

I perceived you telling me to "leave other people's intellectual properties alone (not just music)" as calling me a thief. Which was very insulting in my eyes as all I did here was asking for information. If I really didn't give a damn about stealing other people's intellectual properties. This discussion and conversation wouldn't have existed in the first place.

Anyways now that I have sufficient information I will not touch Witcher 3 musics. Hope that make everyone sleep better at night

Listening to it. That's all you get to do.

I won't recommend you using music in videos. Even turning off the music in games when recording is the best. You can get in trouble, and it saves you a lot of false claims aswell
