Quen? Dodge better?

With quen it managed to break through my shield, dodging is better.

What's your build? I had absolutely no trouble beating him with my swords/alchemy build on DM NG+ and I was only 2 above target level. Maybe use quen more? Or maybe griffin decoction?

I'm using quen and trying to roll out the way but it still leaves me with about a 5th of my health. Some of the enemies in this new DLC are rather broken it seems.

Well, being able to tank everything up to Death Star beam with single Quen cast is even more broken. He did pretty much the same to me, but I did not give him more than one cast. If everything else fails, you can tank him with alternate Quen cast, or tank with White Raffard decoction - I hope you have master version of it.

just sprint to either left or right and it won't hit you

I must be using a really broken build, cause I thought he was way to easy :(

Even with a sign build, the boss fight is pretty damn hard. On death march, his crazy bat swarm will one hit you even with a high intensity quen. You honestly have to get used to the timing, and the roll to the left or right. I think that the entire attack animation is a little screwy and should be reworked, as there is too much delay between him charging the bats and unleashing them. It causes impatience and catches you off guard the first few times.

When you see him start the bat attack, activate quen, start sprinting to the left or right (Whichever has more room to sprint) and dodge roll the moment the bats dissapear behind him.

The moment I figured this out is the moment I was able to finally beat him.

I went full swordsman (3 greater red mutagens + 1 normal one, only sword abilities except for the alchemy one that increases toxicity based on known formula, medium armor with Wolf School techniques ability).

Pretty much everything in the game, including difficcult fights such as Iris's nightmare from Heart of Stone, was easy but for Detlaff I had to turn the difficulty down. First phase was a joke, lasted less than a minute, but then he just oneshots me every time, through Quen.

TBH the damage of the bat attack is just ridiculous, even on the LOWEST difficulty it breaks my Quen and took of about 2000 hp afterwards. This is literally more damage than any other boss does on Deathmarch.

Using crit build melts most bosses but it´s even more broken with quen that blocks everything. Dettlaff was quite easy and I can´t see how you can get killed by that bat attack. Only thing that can help you is quen or perhaps you just need to dodge better. It would really help if you told what build you are using.

if u really wanna cheese it (thats what i did ) just use White Raffard's whenever hes about to do that bat skill of his, and u will be immune to dmg for a few seconds.
then u continue to dps him and he should die before u will waste all of your White Raffards.

Using Alchemy build probably broke the game, I just tank everything he throw at me on DM because of boring dodging with a simple Swallow.

Anyway, you need to roll at the right timing, just before the attack lands. I actually dodged it a couple times simply by rolling backward at the right timing.

The problem is that the timing is really hard to find. I managed to beat him on Deathmarch now by using first the sprint sidewards - dodge method and then White Raffard after a few times but it's almost impossible to do consistently because I don't even see him when I have to dodge so it's pure guess.

Point still stands, the fight is a complete heap of ♥♥♥♥ and shouldn't exist. Stage 1 and 3 are cool and fun but stage 2, ♥♥♥♥ that. Pointless imbalanced waste of time.

Camera's limited here and quen is not an option, so it's really hard. I had to switch to easiest difficulty in settings, that worked.
