Witcher gear doesn't seem worth it
I have the Bear School Gear full set at Mastercrafted level at the moment and it is only slightly better than the random stuff you just pick up from crates and enemies, but took a long time to find all the diagrams and costed a fortune to get. It took something like 3 hours just to get all the upgrade diagrams and get craftsmen to make the equipment, and I probably spent 20,000 gold or more just on this set alone for materials and crafting costs.

Apparently at Grandmaster level (which is the next upgrade level for me) you unlock additional bonuses, but still, I don't see how spending all this time and money for slightly better gear is worth it from a utility standpoint. I guess it looks cool and is fun to collect for some people.

20k isn't that much and if you're talking about utility why not just go around naked

The Witcher gear has specific uses and has more better utility for builds than random gear does, plus it looks way cooler than 90% of the other gear in game

For the armor you need to look at resistance bonuses. At mastercrafted level the Ursine armor offers 70% reduction from monster damage which is MUCH higher than any random gear you find.

Even the MC feline armor which offers 30% monster reduction is much higher than other light armors.

As far as swords go, in the base game the witcher swords are better than most but in B&W there are many good unique weapons that outclass Witcher swords.

That is not true. Witcher gear is much stronger compared to any other item on same level. You are probably only looking at the straight damage/armor number which becomes meaningless at higher level. Resistance % is the main stat you want on the armor, and witcher gear provides exactly that.

I have found non-Witcher gear that's useful between Witcher sets (from Enhanced to Superior, for example), but I've yet to find any gear that can really compete with Mastercrafted Witcher gear.

I'm curious what you think is comparable.

While witcher gear has some very specific effects, some non witcher gear has some more generic but significant effects such as +hp, +damage, +ap, etc. I never wore witcher armor after the starting armor in all my play time as a result. Not to mention the scavenger hunt is extremely tedious imo since they are devoid of any narrative other than a letter every now and then and are located in the middle of nowhere.

That doesn't make the armour you chose superior, though.

Witcher gear gives you exclusive resistance against monsters and experience bonuses. Add set bonuses to that and you have a very powerful gear.

I never claimed that to begin with.

It was kind of implied in that context. You offered a reason for not using Witcher armour, thus implying it was not as good.

I gave a reason for using non witcher armor, I did not say using witcher armor is wrong. But OK.

LOL you didn't even give a reason and in the context it sounded like you thought your choice was better so stop being a petulent little ♥♥♥♥.

I don't answer to you and you are not involved in this conversation. So why don't you stop being a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pretending to be so righteous and knowledgable, and save your threats for yourself. Note that I am also ignoring the fact that I clearly explained why I prefer non witcher armor, it is the very reason we are here to begin with. So good job missing the point.
Unless you are role playing as Radovid the stoneless, in which case bravo.
