I don't think we find out. She had plans to grow them back, but there was a letter warning her it was dangerous and would take large amounts of power.

In the books mages are basically immortal, so she has a long time to figure it out. I'd be very conservative with dangerous treatments if I was immortal. Best to wait for something safe.
