Addressing that first part, least we can walk up to them and press an attack button or Sign and Geralt will threaten them. Doing so never gelts old imo.
But, Geralt attacking civilians doesn't make sense. The point of a Witcher is to protect civilians from monsters. People by nature snear at things they don't understand, like Witchers or "monsters"(Like Godlings, they aren't dangerous but they are still labelled as such. Or elves for that matter!)
Yeah the troll-bait was pretty weak, but it actually is an interesting topic to discuss. lol
Honestly I don't believe witchers are necessarily supposed to be protectors of the masses, or even Geralt who seems more "noble" than many other witchers.
They kill monsters yes, but they don't do so for free, or at least they always try to get paid for it. lol. The quest "Where the Cat and Wolf" play was pretty interesting, and related to this matter. Since without wishing to spoil for anyone who hasn't done it, you are asked to decide if slaying civilians can be justifiable.
We also see some examples of witchers that act as little more than mercenaries or hired assassins. For example when hunting down one of the witcher gear sets, you find notes describing how a witcher had pretended to be the guard for a group of scholars, then slaughtered them all trying to take their findings.Even Geralt can sometimes act in a similar way. There's an optional quest in Skellige where Geralt has a choice to kill a man he knows very little about at the request of someone he owes a favor.
The game also goes for the true but somewhat cliche theme of "people can be monsters, too." We see plenty of examples of monsters who aren't threats to innocent people, and people who are.
But all in all, nonr og this would excuse Geralt just running around murdering civilians for little more than insulting him. It would just make him one of those "monsters." Also, while Geralt is supposed to be quite the powerful man in the game and the lore, he can't really take on an enitre city guard by himself. He has to respect the laws, at least while under the watch of too many soldiers. lol
As for elves I don't think you can really say that as a species they're aren't dangerous. Much like humans it varies on an individual basis. The Scoia'tael are a simple enough example, as yes they at least see themselves are righteous warriors fighting for the freedom of their race, but others see them as terrorists. Either way it's undeniable that they take many lives.
Yes, but for a REASON. Geralt just doesn't go around killing random civilians.
Might I also mention, that Geralt has killed plently, but all for the lesser evil.
XD
that would be completely against the Lore. Maybe a mod would do
