ignore my previous post. I just found this:
(My inquiry is about each "original" witcher gear scavenger quest, meaning the very first quest of the series (not the ones which result in finding an upgrade). What I have noticed is that when you read the first map for any of the upgrades, two quests are triggered: the "original" quest, and the "upgrade" quest corresponding to the map which was read. Afterwards, reading additional maps for each set only triggers upgrade quests for that set.
However the "original" quest can be triggered though other means I believe. For example, in the case of the Cat School quest, the quest can be triggered by reading Julia Kenyon's diary. While passing through Farcorners, you can hear some peasant women complaining that the cats of one of their neighbors, Julia Kenyon, are ruining their laundry. As they make plans to kill the cats, there is also the mention of treasure. You can search for Julia's house (there are lots of cats and dead mice around) and inside you will find her diary explaining how she was a scavenger herself and how her entire team died while exploring the caves under Temple Isle. Apparently she remained scarred by the symbol of a cat she saw in there (which probably led to her obsession with cats). This triggers the quest titled Scavenger Hunt: Cat School Gear with just the objective to search the passages under Temple Isle)
I already had two objectives when I read the book. The Temple Isle one and Searching for the gear 0/7 I believe. The 0 out of 7 objective was probably added when I purchased the map for the Cat School gear because the only objective that is added to the journal when you read the diary appears the be the Temple Isle one:)
I wish now I had of known about AND read Julia Kenyons Diary beforehand, so that I could of activated the quest the right way around, instead of purchasing the map:)
Hope this makes sense:)
