Professor Moreau's lab

Hey there,
I was going through the Professor Moreau quest and I was probably not paying enough attention to it. Do we ever find out who was trying to enter his lab before us? The whole way to his lab you see equipment and signs of someone trying to break in prior to our arrival but then there doesn't seem to be any conclusion to that.
Did anyone here find something?

If i remember right I think it was just Tomb Raiders of sorts, people trying to find treasure and rummage around

I'm about to go through blood and wine again and it's been a while so I don't exactly remember everything

The notes he has around seems to indicate that he was experimenting on a witcher, and the witcher didn't like being a test subject. From the contents of the notes, I'm guessing that the witcher in question was his son. Maybe the kid fought back?
