When does Regis do that? I can't find anything in reference to that. Are you sure you're not mistaking it with something else?

It happened before going to the place where he get tortured, he kills the crow that helped him and drank his blood.

Oh, that. I've always felt that he did that to get information.

No. he didnt do it to gain information. The reason is explained in La Cage au Fou.

IN La Cge au Fou the whole reason Regis and you need go to tesham Mutna and regis getting tortured is explained to you. Its because regis is trying to make a resonance. Resonance is a potion which invokes visions. Regis wants to drink the Resonance to have visions of Detlaff.

He previously sends geralt on ingredient hunting in which you do some quest to gain ingredients for this resonance. Upon completing the quest you are given you return to Regis and give them to him.

However there is one last thing he needs. Basically Regis needs some of his own blood. But not just prick his finger and take some of the blood. He needs some of his blood while he is in an extremely agitated state.

This is the whole reason you go to tesham mutna and the torture of Regis.

Regis needs to get in an extremely agitated state. A blood lust. So the plan is for them to go to tesham mutna put regis in the cage that has already proven to hold a higher vampire in an extremely agitated state for centuries. While geralt kills monsters. The death and blood from the monsters will drive Regis . A recovering addict of drinking blood to a blood lust agitated state.

Then and only then will his blood suffice for the resonance. This is the whole reason you go to tesham mutna and the whole reason Regis is tortured.

Now 1 thing you have to know. Higher vampires do not need blood to survive. Blood is more like alchohol instead of a substance they need survive.

In other words. Blood is an alchoholic beverage like wine to higher vampires. Now with all that information.

Here is why Regis drank the blood of the Raven. It wasnt to get information.

It was to start him becoming agitated. Start the process of him getting into an agitated state.

Drinking blood in an of itself wouldnt be enough for him to enter a blood lust extremely agitated state. But its a start. Its the wanting and not being able to have that gets regis in the agitated state. What was torturing Regis was this. He was in a extremely agitated state due to all the blood in the air from geralt killing all the mosters in tesham mutna but regis couldnt partake in any of hte blood and killing.

Regis killing the crow and drinking its blood before hand was simply an act to begin the process.

Think of it like this. alchoholic takes 1 sip of alchohol. Its just 1 sip. He can handle one sip without showing signs of anger or other behavior associated with alchoholics. but that one sip starts him wanting more.

In this same way Regis drinking the crows blood. Starts regis wanting blood. Then you go to tesham mutna and he gets in the cage and you start killing monsters filling the air with the smell of blood and death and driving Regis to an extremely agitated state. Because he wants to blood but cant get it due to being caged.
