if you are intend to do every side quest and sell unwanted items then you will earn a lot of money. e
Also, you can't equip the Grandmaster set until you are level 40/41 so if you are only level 20 then you don't need to worry about it yet. I made most of my gold gathering up pirate treasure in the oceans in Skellige and selling all the extra gear. Just loot everything and make sure you are selling equipment to the appropriate merchants or you could lose a lot of gold (general items to general merchants / weapons & armor to blacksmiths and armorers / alchemy items to alchemy merchants, etc.)
+1 but i sold my loot every npc i saw. still i have plenty gold.
