What is Gaunter O Dimm?

A devilish demon. he's in a state of ambiguity. no one really knows, but all things point to a devil of some sorts. I don't think it's lazy writing, I believe his origin is purposefully left unanswered. much like the cat and dog from von everec's estate, they're an enigma.

but with O'dimm, its nice to see his remnants scattered through the game, ie: like o'dimm’s connection w/Marlene de Trastamara from blood/wine.

At first I thought he was a genie. One of those regular trickster spirits/elementals. But at the end of the questline it's pretty damn clear that he is a demon.

He's the best character in the game, hands down. Appearance, animation and voice acting are all absolutely stellar and he steals every scene he is in.

As for his nature, it's deliberately ambiguous and likely not really meant to be answered. The entire HoS DLC is based on a Polish myth about a man who sells his soul to Satan, however, so make of that what you will.

Well if we go off of the books and the games and how the lore of the universe works, Its likely that there is no classification for him yet. But it is likely that he was classified as "the devil."

The witcher is a universe that takes the perspective that many real things in that universe are misrepresented by the common man due to superstition, religion, and simply embelishments added by the story teller that continues to evolve as time moves on.

In the universe it is likely that the devil may not actually exist as its represented, but the devil may be based off o' Dimm and the interactions and perceptions of the people who knew or knew of him. Each culture appropriated him differently using the lense of their values and beliefs, but what he actually is or the limits of what he is capable of are unknown at the limits.

He can be beaten at duel of the minds, but is that because he is required to follow that through some magical force, or is it because he chooses to be fair and theoretically could cheat any time he wants but meerly does it that way for sport. There is no answer to this, but we do know some things about him and he likely is worthy of his own classification.

Like in reality its one of those cases that not all questions have answers. With the conjunction of the spheres many things of many different worlds came into being in the witcher universe many of which may not be known.

He chooses to be fair but still "cheats" in a way.

He is so powerful he can probably take someone's soul whenever he wants but prefers to do so by playing with them. When you are very powerful there is no point in simply killing your prey but it becomes fun when there is a chance that it might survive you. Last challenge is a good example for that.

It is mentioned he is very ancient. He speaks 3 different languages while leaving, implying that he has been everywhere (at least in our world, lol). He is probably the closest thing you can get as the devil.

Gaunter O Dimm is an Evil Jin who grants your wishes for a price. And you must be careful with what you wish, Like the part where Olgierd says he wanted to stand on a moon, and Gaunter shows him the temple floor!! It was kinda funny....I like the Heart of Stone pack a lot for the suspicious story!!

He aint really god, by CD project red he is classified demon but we dont know what a demon is, let alone what KIND of demon he is.

O'dimm is a powerful being apearing in human form, he can conduct vast amount of spells and goetia, he has great knowlage over the world and his victem so called... And weirdly it apears he can controll time to an unknown extant.
Also he can take someone's souls whatever that means, I can only guess that he tears the specter & life force out of a person and then feeds on it in a surely productive way, but thats just one of many theory.

Tho he aint god, he did not create the an shide world nor its people.
He is not omnicient
He is not even multipreasent, I mean not really(tho he can go from place to place easily but as we can see it does not neccessarly means he is multipreasent).

He might know the future, to large yet unkown extant(maybe its related to his time abilities)
He never lies or cheat(probably to not break the magic as he is honest with his aproach)
He never forget...
And he probably played a huge roll in the history of an shide men, to say the least.

So we know on a small scale what he can do and what he does, but we dont know what he is, because he smith everyone who learns about it, or remotely takes huge intrest in it.

Not only this but also the fact that he is "The Mirror Master". What does happen when you put a writing in front of a mirror? It gets reversed.
So the G.O.D thing is more like a curious way to say that he is the Devil (or a some kind of demon at least).

Think of this, the unseen elder is one of the strongest things in The Witcher world, O'Dimm can kill him with no problem (or imagine it in this way, in term of powers, Geralt would be in the floor with almost every character in The Witcher series, the Unseen Elder'd be in the top of the Burj Khalifa, and O'Dimm'd be looking at them from Jupiter)

We are not sure how he controlls time and to what extant, we just know he can terrifighly do it so everything around him stops in place.
