Spiders in game?
Hello everyone, I am really sorry for the bother with this question as I understand that most people/players won't understand why I would ask a question like this. I have severe arachnophobia in real life and to this day I can't play games with big, hairy, realistic type spiders. I really love huge open world single player RPGs. My favourites being Fallout and Skyrim and to a lesser extent Cyberpunk 2077. Luckily Fallout games and Cyberpunk 2077 was spider free but I had to mod Skyrim to play it as that world was full of large spiders.
Please tell me to what extent there are spiders and/or spider like creatures. Can they be modded out? Does that mod still work today? And overall, how does this RPG compare to say games like Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 4, Skyrim and Cyberpunk?

Thank you for your time and if you have a response likened to "its a video game, the spiders can hurt you" or "how can you be scared of pixels on a screen?" then please don't bother. You obviously don't understand this crippling fear and I wish you well in the current game you are playing.

This mod replaces the Arachnid models with other monsters from the game, though depending on how severe your phobia is and your specific triggers, those very same monsters might still trigger you, as they have similar skeletons, and thus similar movement, if, for example, the leg movement of arachnids is a trigger for you.

Check out the included pictures on that page, those are all the examples of replacement-models, to see if they are tolerable for you.

Can't tell you if this mod works with the newest game version or not, the description in any case hasn't been updated since game version 1.21, and we're on 1.32 by now.
Check out the comments on that page maybe.

All that said:
The Arachnids/Arachnomorphs in this game aren't really of the huge'n'hairy variety, and I personally cannot remember any cutscenes with closeups either, but then again I'm not arachnophobic, so I wouldn't have noticed them especially if there were any.

In battle, you never really get close enough/stand still long enough to really notice details such as hairy legs on enemies, in my experience, though that in turn might stem from me being currently on my 6th playthrough, so I pretty much kill anything within seconds, provided I prepared well enough for the fight.

Oh, and on a personal note:
Please, never ever apologize for you being yourself!
It's perfectly fine to ask for help and advice, to admit weaknesses or whatever.
People who'd attack you for something like that are just massive losers & deluxe-douchebags.

Oh my goodness. Thank you so much.
Yes I was hoping for something like this. These are not realistic at all.
While they may move similarly or may even sound the same, it's the visuals of a realistic spider that scares me the most and these will do just fine.
Wow thank you again.
Is this game riddled with spiders? or is it really just one specific zone or DLC would you say?

Not even remotely riddled, personally I'd even say that true spiders are among the most rarely seen enemies... usually you get to see the truly phantastical/mythological beasts and monsters, and where "mundane" beasts are concerned, you most often see wolves or the occasional bear.
There are monsters called Arachnomorphs, that aren't technically spiders but look and act very similarly. They're added by the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions to certain areas.

As for the main game and its area, there's no spider.
But there will be spiders (black & hairy) in DLC Heart of Stone, and centipedes (very big) in DLC Blood and Wine.
But I'm 100% sure you won't encounter any spider during main quests of any DLC, unless you wander into the wild.

Thank you everyone so much for understanding.
This little lady was never strong enough to slain a giant spider haha.
Just small ones, like the ones found in Diablo and Grim dawn.

Thank you again for that mod info Homer Morisson.

Oh, yeah, excellent point about Arachnomorphs only being added by the addon DLCs.

But, Jam, PLEASE do play the addons too, especially Blood & Wine has such a magnificient new realm to discover and such a beautifully-written main story, one of the most memorable side stories out of any game I've ever played (Canary is all I'll say), and this addon is actually one of the exceedingly rare examples of a grand adventure being closed off perfectly.

You are very welcome, and just in case you didn't see what I not-so-ninja-edited into my first post, you know, here it is again:

No need to reply to this if this makes you feel uncomfortable or anything... just think the world would be a nicer place if ppl, for a change, just speak up when they think they can help.

I agree, it's by far my favorite DLC of all time.

Sorry one more question everyone. I think I am going to get this game thanks to all the helpful replies here. Should I just buy the base game and get the DLC once the story is complete or just spend the extra $3 now and get the GOTY? I just wonder because, sometimes I have purchased GOTY version of games and they have been totally overwhelming upon spawning in game because everything pops up at once "you have unlocked this", "you have unlocked that", "you have discovered x" etc. A great example of this was Fallout 3 GOTY, as soon as you opened that vault door and was greeted with the wasteland, for a good 5 minutes everything pops up in that top right hand corner and it's like oh my gosh what do I do first? how do I just follow the main story? is this a DLC location etc. Is the Witcher 3 like this? I just do not want to be overwhelmed on my first playthrough. I believe it is good to have the game grow with you and not just lump everything onto yourself at once.

Well, I'd say get the GotY, but I also think this is the greatest game in history so I'm a bit biased.

The only things that "pop up" are the two expansion DLCs, and that will basically just tell you "Thank you for purchasing" or something like that once you get past the tutorial area. The in-game journal will tell you a recommended level for all the quests (including the DLCs), so there will be a natural way to progress through the game. The second expansion, Blood and Wine, is for story reasons recommended to play after the main quest.

There's also a bunch of smaller free DLCs, but I don't think you'll even notice which ones those were since they're just quietly added to the world.

And just a suggestion: If you buy the GotY, you might be able to disable Hearts of Stone while going through the main game so that you don't accidentally run into the arachnomorphs while exploring the world, and then maybe enable it when you feel ready to play it. Either that or look up at what areas they spawn, I'm sure it's on a wiki somewhere.

Not sure about other locations, but there is a side quest called "Enchanting: Quality Has Its Price" and a treasure hunt quest called "The Drakenborg Redemption" in Hearts of Stone that send you through a cave (Bloodrot Pit) full of arachnomorphs. They are not main quests, so you could avoid it altogether and not miss the story.
