Technically, since your major choices and outcomes carry over from each game into the next, the answer is "all of them." The three core games were designed from the start as a trilogy, although in terms of personal preference for the self-contained story arcs, I prefer Assassination of Kings' plot.

ty cause i started playing the witcher 3 a few days ago have completed the main quest already and the story was awesome wanted to know if the other the witcher games have as good of a story
I liked W2's story the best. But its more politically motivated than W3.

Witcher 1 has the best story and best character interactions and best/most impactful choices and best romance features.

They don't really, other than a few brief things, and then only as a meaningless & irrelevant footnote.

For example, how many times is the main villain from Witcher 1 talked about at all in Witcher 2 and/or Witcher 3? Zero, or pretty close to zero, right?

So all the stuff in Witcher 1 might as well not have even happened, as far as the two subsequent games are concerned, since they completely ignore it.

And what about Geralt's prostitute friend from Witcher 1....how many times does she appear or, is she even mentioned, in Witcher 2 and/or Witcher 3? Also zero, right?

And what about the epic, mystical swords you can get in Witcher 1, which are the best swords in the whole universe...yet if you carry them over to Witcher 2, within the first 30 minutes they become out-classed by random trash swords dropped by random trash mobs, and your "best swords ever" therefore become total garbage. That shows much respect the subsequent games have for the story/lore of the first one (i.e. none at all).

Likewise does Witcher 3 ignore most of the stuff in Witcher 2, other than as aforementioned, a few brief & irrelevant footnotes.

In order to not lose Aerondight, I equipped the default weak ar$e silver sword just before the encounter with the dragon. But you were written to lose the sword, and it becomes one of the weakest swords in W2. Same goes for the Raven's armour. A mystical armour that requires a particular chant while being crafted. They changed its texture to make it look like the Hunter's armour, and it also becomes so weak over the course of the game. It was so annoying, really.
Have you played Blood and Wine though?

Witcher 1 and 2 are for desperate fans only (just old games). Witcher 3 is only option for new fan.

What a ridiculous thing to say. Witcher 2 still looks good and doesn't feel outdated at all, I like it way more than third game. W1 may be hard to get into because of gameplay but story is much better than W3.

You would have to play them and see which one appeals to you. Some like the first, while others like the third.
Your mileage may vary.

Witcher 2 was my favorite, Witcher 1 close behind.
Witcher 2, my favorite of those three. Story choices affect and change the WHOLE game. Also, there is a little bit of stealth which I loved! I should also mention that this game had the best cosmetic armors and outfits of all 3 games.

Aerondight makes a return in the DLC expansion: Blood & Wine. The Lady of the lake even makes the comment "Try not to lose it this time",So there are some references.

I disagree. Last year my sister bought me TW3 during the summer sale. My video card at the time was really sucky and I couldn't get TW3 to play properly but was intrigued by it. So I bought TW1 and TW2 during the sale since they were so cheap. While playing TW1, I got a new graphics card for my birthday. My sister than asked me when I was going to play TW3. I said after 1 and 2. There was no way I was going to skip them now that I was sucked in.:cozywolfmedalion:

modded wise and played at max settings at 4k witcher 1 looks pretty decent..

witcher 2 at max in 4k still holds quite well..
story wise well... this is a hard one because really i like all three story.. but like a book.. each are kind of building upon each other

they arent as well crafted/connected as well as old bioware games though like dragon age and mass effect... more so on the choices you made in past games...

Didn't play 1 because it was a buggy awful mess at launch. But 2 is far far far better story-wise than 3. And by far the better game.
