Is there any way to stop leveling up/gaining XP?
So Im already level 34 and I havent even gone to Skellige to start the new quest chain for the Sunstone/Fighting Eredin. Right after "Final Preparations" quest in Novigrad.

I want to play all the DLC's and have them be challenging but at this rate by the time I finish the main story I'll probably be level 42 - ten levels above what the quests are, since they give you absurd amounts of XP at the end.

Does anyone know of a method to stop leveling up? I have the console enabled, I know its not possible to level down. But is it possible to remove XP so I can tend to it and stop leveling indirectly? If there is any way to do this please let me know! I searched and found a command for resetting Geralts level but it also resets everything, potions schematics and items which makes it a deal breaker.

There's a way to tweak xp earned, but I suggest you play on death march, with that difficulty you only get 80% of total XP

Well this seems to be the closest thing to an answer I was looking for.

As for enemy scaling - its not the same. Going to Toussaint at level 42 with scaling on at death march is still somehow easier than going at level 35 with scaling off at blood & broken bones. Also does anyone know if enemy upscaling gives you more XP for killing those enemies? Feel like enabling upscaling would only make it worse if it starts giving more XP, thus leveling me up even more.

Does anyone know of a mod for this? I dont want a super punishing game, I just want to be able to play it and the side quests without getting egregiously over-leveled. This playthrough Ive only done main story missions and a few side missions, done no witcher contracts, yet Im still 5 levels above recommended already by the time Im at Skellige. Game is giving way too much XP.

You should do main quests when your level is equal to the recommended level in the quest, ignore those side quests and do it later, when your level is more than 5 from the recommended side quests, you gain 1-2 exp.
