Why did CDPR change Triss hair to red.
I never really understood why they did that.

her description in the books (chestnut brown hair with a golden sheen, blue eyes, wears her hair loose to show that she is a free, independent woman).

Yeah, the chestnut brown hair from the books totally translates to red.
In what translation did you read witcher books?

Polish and English. Her hair is not red in the books.
I see... In Russian translation the color varies from chestnut to auburn, to fiery red.

Not that I understand the difference really. :)

So far i'm loving the books as much as the games. I hope the netflix show is just as good.

Does somebody have a Baptism of Fire in Polish?

In chapter six (a few pages into the chapter six) there is a short description of Triss (as well as other sorceresses). In Russian version her hair color is called "каштаново-рыжий" (kasztanowo czerwony/rude in Polish) which pretty much is what you see in The Witcher games.

Please leave a comment if you have a book and can check what the color is called in the original version in this particular chapter.

Not sure on the why, but just fyi if you're on the PC version you can download mods to fix her eyes and hair in both W2 & W3 so they're accurate with the book description.

imo they covered all bases: black (yen), red (triss), blonde (keira or to some extent ciri).

The devs simply preferred redheads, that's all. They also chose to make her a love interest which goes against the books.
My polish speaking daughter in law read the books and said she said Triss's descriptions led her to see an auburn haired woman. You may not be astute to hair colors but this is a basic reddish brown color. That said, witcher 2 may be the closest.

But if I recall correctly, the books described it as chestnut would definitely be brown

Meh... Not that it matters, but

That's pretty much how fresh chestnuts look to me (a few chestnut trees grow near my house).
