Nah, he's a good 'ole boy. Just stiff around the edges like any person with power living in a land of corruption and war. Following his story made me actually like him more than almost any other non-vital character, not to mention what he does for Ciri which you will find out fully as you progress with him and at the end of the game.

So if i dont kill him , he will assist me later on?
I wouldn't say he'd assist you as much as you'd assist him with a few things. Honestly you owe him big time, but the game just doesn't tell you until the end.
Actually yeah it does help you, I forgot, you have to get something from his place at the end of the game and I don't know, but I imagine it would be violent if you tried to get said thing later on if you kill him. Whereas you can just walk up and say "Hey, I'm Baron's bro, let me take this thing." If you help him.

Talk to him and he gives you a reason why he hit his wife. Hint: The Baron was off fighting a war for her and she was at home cheating on him.

Well I mean if we goin straight to spoilers, she hit him first multiple times anyways. Hell, she chased his ass around the room trying to murder him. Don't know many drunks who get assaulted and just sit on their thumbs twiddling them.
Also OP, you have to realize that in the Witcher, there is nobody in power thats just "good." It's like real life basically, everyone in power is corrupted by it one way or another. In the Barons case, it just happens to be that he lives in a very hard land with the kind of people that worship evil creatures and show their adoration through the most vile methods possible. Even the seemingly "good" people in Velen are total whackjobs who will stab you in the back for a coin. Of course the dudes rough.

I don't know. Danelion seems like a good guy, except he is a womanizer. I am also a fan of Vernon Roche, even though he is racist against elves. At least he gets disgusted when he sees mages and minorites set on fire.
By the end of his quest line, I felt for the guy. Would recommend friendship.
All the early choices, are a question of which evil you think is the lesser one.

He'd murdered her lover. That's when she began trying to provoke him hitting her by hitting him. She tried several times to kill him too. When she miscarried (after going to the Crones and enlisting their help to get rid of the unborn fetus), she again fought with him and then fled with her daughter when he passed out drunk.

I wouldn't call killing your wife's lover "murder", more like Justice.
